ABINGDON, Va. --
Former Dickenson County Commissioner of the Revenue Ronnie L. Robbins might have walked out of federal court a free man Tuesday had he been convicted only of lying about fighting in Vietnam.

“That conduct deserves, in my view, the sentence of imprisonment,” Federal Judge James P. Jones said.
Robbins, 58, also must repay the $70,749 in benefits collected for claiming to suffer from post traumatic stress disorder as a result of the ordeal. Court documents show Robbins wasn’t at the scene when his friend died.
