F CO 51 IN Lineage

Post by prokinetics »

I'm currently serving in the HQ Platoon for F Co, 51 IN (Anti-Tank), assigned to 1SBCT, 1Armored Division. My 1SG and myself have been trying to build a accurate and detailed lineage for our company, but have found only a few solid resources.

We have a clear idea of the companys history up to around the mid-80's, where it seems the company was reactivated in Germany for a time. However, after that it is unclear. A buddy of mine who was deployed in Mosul in '07 clearly remembers the F Co, 51 IN Scroll painted on a barrier there, however we have found no documents supporting that fact. I've also noticed multiple posts of Soldiers who have served in F Co/51 IN as recently as '07.

If anyone can aid me in at least a general idea of where you were stationed and for what length of time, I can starting piecing together a clearer idea of this company's outstanding history and lineage.

Much Appreciated

There was a Mech unit in Germany that had LRSU around DS time frame. Could it be from that?

Pretty sure that was E co 51st. When I was in Vicenza they were the LRS guys in Germany. That was as recent as 2004.

If you can only trace them to the mid-80s, your google-Fu sucks.

Yes they were in Mosul, 04-06 ish. They were back in Western Nineva in 08 when I left.

Use your unit resources to contact the Army Center for Military History at Carlisle Barracks. Answering questions such as yours is one of their primary missions.

I was one of the guys who started F Company, 51st (LRSU) ... how they fuck did they become anti-tank???

I left the 3rd Ranger Battalion to go to greater things. They promised us HALO school and many other great things. They said we would be Airborne in Germany. At that time in the Army (Reagan era... sigh, great time!) we were expanding the Army and the idea of being an Airborne Ranger in Germany facing against the evil empire was a cool thing. I left Ranger Battalion and joined F Company.

All of the team leaders (no squads in a LRSU unit) were from battalion. Andreason, Peterson, Ledbetter, and many others were there.

Many times folks have asked me what is the worst and best time in the Army. Both were F Company. The best, because we were the only dismounted "elite" unit in 7 corps and we could do anything we wanted to. Training was only limited to our imagination. The worst of times due to the fact that we were attached to the 511th MI, the most leg of all units.

Good times.

Seriously. Good times. Awesome times.
