I actually discussed this possibility in trying to talk my son out of joining. We would have preferred he wait until after the next presidential election. 18 year olds don't like to be bothered with the facts, though.

It's blatantly obvious and has been for quite some time that Slappy is too stupid to be left alone without his teleprompter. Scary thing is he is the puppet and the maggots controlling the strings ("screens?") hate our country. Its coming. I hate to see it but Thomas Jefferson predicted it so bring it on. Regardless my God is still on the throne!

MsMarla.... "let not your heart be troubled", your Son couldn't be with with better people, finer Americans

Glad to hear that's your impression. We're seeing a lot more liberals in the Navy these days. Officers and enlisted. It's pretty discouraging.

This came up in current events in my school. What I told them is the first line of defense of any nation is the military. This includes enemies both foreign and domestic. If any president decides to use the military against the people of the US, what will stop them first is that military. This is the same dilemma that R.E. Lee had when Lincoln told him to take over command of the US Army, march through both his state of VA and NC, and go fight SC. He refused. So many others refused that the US had to bring in hundreds of thousands of German and Irish immigrants just to fight the war.

We are a nation that has a military made up of the people of the nation. It is not a drafted or conscripted army, so it is an army of free men and not "slaves". The military is made of us, so it is a micro-cosm of the US population. If the population is corrupt, evil, so will the military. The only way to get the military to do your unconstitutional bidding is to change the military (lifting don't ask, don't tell, and not giving a pay raise for three years, may be a start).

One of the problems that the nation has right now is that the military has become its own class system. Less than 1% of 1% of the nation is in the military right now, and those in it continue to reenlist to fight for the nation, that does not know what it does in its name. So the military is creating its own caste. The warrior caste. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing. Historically it can go both ways.

MsMarla,
I'm going off topic here, but several months ago I met a young man my age at a certain infamous range who had a interest in pursuing a career with the Navy (wanted to be a Seal). However his excuse for not joining was his disbelief in the Government leadership. Being a person of fighting age but not abled bodied enough for military standards, I found this incredibly offensive. I remember watching those towers fall on the TV in my 5th grade classroom and I will never forget that there are people in this world who will do us harm just because of who we are. Presidents come and go but what never changes are the wolfs at the door and the soldiers who will fight them. No disrespect intended but I applaud your son for not listening and joining. To any other able bodied American who visit this site, we may have another 4 years of the current administration but enemies we face today and tomorrow will still be there. Again no disrespect ma'am just my thoughts being a person who will never have the opportunity to shed blood for my country.
This doesn't offend me at all. My husband is active duty and has served 22 years and we have been through 8 deployments together while I have cared for our 7 children mostly alone. We believe in the mission and love our country or we would not have stayed so long. I'll have to speak for myself here since he IS active duty and cannot voice his opinion, but it is my opinion that the current administration will never allow the military to actually succeed. I'll stop there. I could say more, but I respect the men on here and their service too much to risk offending anyone. Besides, I pray and hope this will all be moot in another two years!

Don't we all? Comes a point where the "I told you so's" just get stupid. Heck it would almost be funny if the joke wasn't on "us". Our armed forces DESERVE a competent, AMERICAN, flag waving, God Loving CINC. Course now that the North Koreans have flared up again he'll be off on another world "speech" tour while Michelle fly's off to Paris for X'mas shopping (on our dime).

As for our troops and where their allegiance stands............... NO WORRIES!
