Ranger packet

Post by Abbadaddy68 »

Hello Rangers and company!

I am a current medic in the regular army stationed in Korea. I arrived here recently and realized my folly for not volunteering in AIT. There is very little professionalism and almost no REAL pride. This could be because we are in Korea(probably) but i don't believe that that is an appropriate excuse(no excuse is.)

For this packet it requires a letter of recommendation from my unit commander and another from "preferably the medical supervisor." I have been here for a pretty short time and really do not know how to go about getting a letter from my commander. My medical NCOIC is a young specialist(19) who had no real EMS experience prior to entering the service.

So my question is, " How do I get a letter of recommendation from my commander?" and, "Is my NCOIC credible enough to recommend me to a hardened vet, and if not, who should I go to for that?"

I know that was long winded, so I will end with a, thank you kindly in advance.

If you are a strong performer, getting a letter of recommendation is simply a matter of asking for it. If you are a weak performer, you likely won't. In the past, I have written a number of these -- and yes, I refused to write a recommendation for OCS for a SP4 who (in my opinion) would not have completed training. The rest of the chain of command supported my recommendation.

Thank you sir. I have been a little shaky on a few things, because I am learning alot on the fly. MEDPROS and range procedures don't get taught at Sam.
