Hello,

I'm 29 year old civil servant about to graduate law school in May who has always aspired to join the elite ranks of the SOF. After spending some time over at professionalsoldiers.com and socnet.com, I was advised to check out this site and it has proven to be a great resource.

I'm planning on enlisting with a Rep-63 contract with one of the NG SF Groups near DC, but am intrigued by the work of the Rangers, though it seems from what I've read on here that RASP is a young-man's game.

Welcome to the site. Your assumption about RASP being a young man's game isn't necessarily true. Many of us enlisted when we were older than you. I will say that you will find older men in SF (as a group) than you will in a Ranger Battalion. From what I hear though, the Q Course is just as tough if not tougher than RASP. Either way, expect your body to get hammered. It's not the mindset, maturity, or wisdom that will get you through it at your age, it's luck....meaning no injuries. Your body doesn't heal like it did ten years ago, and it will get harder with each passing year. You're still young enough to do well, though.

Thanks for the advice. My fitness level is good-to-go, it's just the "luck" of injuries to look out for. Looking forward to the challenge. I've definitely contemplated an Option 40 contract, but with so many unknowns (like the unluck of injury), the NG Rep 63 route is likely my best option at this point in my life.

I'm keeping an open mind however, and am happy to be here. Thanks again gents, and thank you for choosing to serve.

29 isn't old enough for age to be an excuse, other than having to put up with all the 18 year olds in the barracks during basic/OSUT.
Get into max condition,to where perfect is your average PT score. Even at 29, it is a little harder to bounce back from a good day of Rangering and you'll have to have more to spare when you go in in the first place.

Then do exactly what . recommended.
