Seeking The Truth

Post by Snow »

Hello Rangers,

Please read my intro to get a little background on me.
http://forum.armyranger.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=50411" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am a little confused with my facts on obtaining my option 40 after reading the threads found on this forum. My recruiter told me "once you give me all you're medical records(view link for more info) I will submit them to the Army and then schedule a day for you to take your physical"; after completed with the physical I will be able to sign up for 11x Option 40, if it is open; I have made it clear to him that I will not stand for anything less. He replies "sometimes it's there and some times its not". After viewing some threads posted by individuals also seeking option 40 they say that their recruiter reserved them a slot for RIP?

So can anyone clear this up for me? I did not know it was possible for a recruiter to reserve an individual a slot; I thought that was done at MEPS after the physical.

Snow,
The Recruiter should reserve you a slot for when you head to Meps.
Then at Meps, If you qualify they put it in your contract.
Sounds like your Recruiter doesn't want to do much work, so he is sending you up to Meps to let them take care of it.
In this case you could go to Meps and there wouldnt be a slot open, and they'll try to pressure you into another job.
With your only options being are taking the new job or leaving Meps completely.
Make sure your recruiter reserves you a slot for when you go to Meps, because most likely a slot WON'T be available if you "wing" it.

I just went through all this in September.
Good Luck.

C-Fro,

Does it matter if I still haven't received my medical records yet? How easy is it for him to reserve me a slot? Because to add insult to injury I recall him telling me to "get on it" in terms of the medical records because he just signed up an individual for the RIP option.

Speak to another recruiter who will give you an Option 40. If that's what you want, go get it.

Ranger Bravo57,

Thank you for your firm reply; I shall be contacting a new recruiter on Monday, I don't feel morally right ditching this current recruiter but I am just another number to him and it is a recruiter .

Would you have a problem going to another car dealer if the sales weenie didn't give you numbers you didn't like?

Ranger X,

After talking with some recruiters on the "Go Army" website and searching the site; I found out that if qualified a recruiter can reserve a job for up to 7 days, then at MEPS sign up for that job. I can't reserve my job until I get all of my paper work in; moreover I have some metal in my right and left foot. But I have a my doctors letter clearing me for any type of military duty.

I'll be honest.
I'm not sure about the medical documents, because I didn't go though any of that.
I think It won't matter, Make sure you have the records for when you go up to Meps though.
Have your Recruiter reserve you a spot...So IF you do qualify you have all you need and your good to go.
They'll figure out if you qualify physically at Meps (regarding your surgeries).
It's his job, so he should do it easy or not.
I wouldn't say its too difficult. All it consist of is to keep calling Meps until a slot opens up, once it does they just reserve it for a week and if you qualify you get the slot Permanantly.
My Recruiter said they just put you on hold alot, so that may be the reason he doesn't want to do it.

Seems as though you should just get another Recruiter.
Best of luck,

Hey Corey,

I wish it were that easy for myself, but I have had surgeries so I have to deal with paper work before I get a reserved slot. I need to get my medical records to my recruiter and forwarded to the army; so the doctors can have them at MEPS. Once I get my medical paper work, I will talk to the recruiter about reserving me a slot(since the slots are only valid for 7 days). I haven't even gotten my medical records back from my hospital yet.

Snow,
I'm sure once you get that paperwork from the hospital you'll get back on track.
Then the next thing you need to worry about is trying to convince them doctors.
My best advice is, PRACTICE THE DUCKWALK. Don't show pain, even if it hurts like hell.
Put your hands on your thighs or hips, keep your back straight and go heel to toe.
They will look for it, if you screw up you can try again.
I was stupid and never did it before that day.....I lucked out
Three others failed the physical because of the duckwalk.
Two others couldn't balance on their tiptoes while crouched, they were failed also.
Make sure you clean your ears too, if they can't see your eardrum pop.....no Airborne for you.

Good luck

C-Fro,

Thanks for the best wishes, yeah those MEPS doctors do know how to do their job. They DQ individuals for just about everything lol it's their job after all. Luckily I have a letter from my Doctor(I have pins and a plate on each foot)saying that I'm clear for all physical activity, running, swimming, marching, and boots will not be a problem. But hell that isn't even enough for those Doctors so I'm going to do some good begging; hopefully they remember me from my last MEPS visit which was nearly 1 year ago. Their DQ was another reason why I had corrective surgery to both of my feet.

Thank god I passed the duct walk; in fact despite my foot condition at the time I was able to pass all of their tests. The depth perception test at MEPS is the worst too it doesn't even work.
