update

Post by doyle »

I've finally got the waiver's I needed and everything is set for me to go to the recruiter's office today at 1 to reserve my job. I can't wait to finally enlist, six months was a long time to wait.
Thanks for all the advice you have given me Rangers.

Good luck with the recruiter. Don't settle for anything but what YOU want.

Thanks, Ranger Rangerguru, I should be posting later to give an update on whether or not I was able to get a 35w Opt. 40 contract.

Do not think this way. Do not accept anything other than what you want.

Have a nice trip to the recruiter. As everyone has already said, don't settle for anything less than what you want!

Rangers, my trip to the recruiter got reschedule for 1 o'clock tomorrow, I guess one more day of waiting isn't too bad.

...and they could potentially tell you tomorrow that there won't be an Option 40 slot for six more months. Every day they postpone it is another day you can prepare. Use that time to get in shape, learn your history, memorize the Creed, etc.

Sorry Ranger Bill, I didn't mean that I would settle for anything less than an opt. 40 just that I wasn't sure if I would be able to get it on my first try, I should have been more clear when I said that. If they say it's not open then I'll tell them I'll see what the Air Force has to offer, if that doesn't open anything up then I'm ready for another 6 months. Thanks for the advice Ranger EarthPig, I got a good run in today and plenty of push ups and sit ups to go along with it. Would you be able to tell me a better place to learn Ranger history than wikipedia? So far that's all I can find..

Thanks again Rangers.

Doyle,

"To Fight with Intrepidity: The Complete History of the U.S. Army Rangers 1622 to Present" by J.D. Lock, you can find it at Amazon or most likely any bookstore like Borders. Back in my lane.

Thanks Ranger ZoneIV, I didn't realize there was more to ArmyRanger.com than the forums, and thanks Praetorian, I'll check that book out.

Rangers, I found out that they don't give opt. 40 contracts to 35w recruits because of how long the training is. I couldn't even get an opt. 4, the only way to go to RIP is to volunteer while at DLI so I'll do that.

You have to figure that there are most likely less than 10 35w in the regiment. So I would say your chances of voulenteering a pretty slim, not impossible mind you but slim

Thanks for the info Ranger Baseplate, it's worth a shot, even if my chances are slim, so I'll give it my all and if it doesn't work out maybe I'll reenlist into an mos that the regiment needs.
