Rangers,
I was dumb enough to sign a contract that did not include Airborne or Ranger school. My recruiters tell me that it is now out of my hands and everything is "a chance."
They tell me that a renegotiation of my contract is a chance, and that there is only a chance that I may get Ranger school in my contract now that I've signed it.
As per my intro please refer to my post history. It's very dated and I'd be willing to post a new introduction if necessary.
Rangers, please tell me I'm not fucked.

Re: Enlisted Future Soldier 68W
You came to this site last year when you were just considering enlistment. You were informed about about Option 40 and have no excuse for signing a contract that did not specify it. When is your ship date? And yes, you can and must re-negotiate your contract. Many others have successfully done so. Search the Introduction and Recruitment forums and you will find the advice we have given and the action they took. It is not "out of your hands." After you have searched and learned about re-negotiation and your obligation as a Future Soldier, post in this thread what your course of action is going to be.

My ship date is 20091020 and I'm being sent to Fort Jackson. In my searching the forums I have found advice for courses of action.
Ranger JLTW!!! wrote: You can sign something you don't want and "renegotiate later" (it is a contract so I don't know if they are under any obligation to have to renegotiate at a later time)
Ranger Bill wrote:You may want to consider contacting your recruiter and explain to him that you want to renegotiate your contract to obtain an Option 40. This has worked for a number of men who have visited this site.
and as further motivation for more PTRanger K.Ingraham wrote:Reneg at MEPS is in order, but should that not work out, there will probably be opportunities at OSUT and jump school to volunteer for RIP. Guys drop their Opt40s almost from the moment they arrive at Benning, creating slots for go-getters on the spot.
Just don't count on it.

As for my course of action;Ranger EvilCouch wrote: Until you actually leave for basic, you can pretty much cancel or renegotiate the contract whenever you want. Whether or not the recruiter that you're dealing with is going to be willing to continue negotiations with you is completely up to that recruiter, though.
I have already politely requested with my recruiting station that I might see the counselor at MEPS prior to my ship date to renegotiate. Recruiter specifically said that this could be done, but the counselors would not have my neck, but his. Could I go to MEPS prior to my ship date and renegotiate regardless of whatever scorning my recruiter might receive? Otherwise, from the information I have gathered, I have deducted that my only option would be to renegotiate on my ship date.
At the moment I have every recruiter in the station on watch for an Airborne slot to open up; as jump school is nothing more than an "add on" from what I have been informed. So should my renegotiation at MEPS fail, I could always speak with the black hat at Airborne or the Ranger liaison at jump school.
I'm not going to OSUT at Fort Jackson - does this mean there will not be an opportunity to volunteer for RIP in basic?

Re: Enlisted Future Soldier 68W
Call your recruiter explaining to him that you have given it a lot of though and you definitely need to re-no your contract. Explain that you did not realize what you were doing and felt pressured into signing for 11X. Chances are that you will get a different ship date in your new Option 40 contract. Do not agree to the Option 4, Airborne, if Ranger is what you want. Tell them you only want the Option 40. Get on this ASAP. Do not concern yourself with your recruiter's neck, rather concern yourself with what you want. The Ranger contract is the only way you will be gauranteed a shot at RIP.

Ranger Bill,
I was in the recruiting station yesterday and spoke with 3 of the recruiters about getting myself an Option 40. The response I received from the Active Duty recruiters was either to renegotiate before shipping, or wait and see to volunteer.
The highest ranking recruiter there is a Reservist recruiter and he flat out told me that I was going to have to hope that the counselor would be willing to renegotiate on my ship date and then pray there would be a slot.
Ranger Bill, in your response you advised that I should explain that I felt pressured into signing an 11x contract. If it makes any difference, I have signed a 68W contract, so when I renegotiate - will I lose my 68W MOS? I definitely want to be a combat medic but I also want to serve as a Ranger.
So far as calling my recruiter, he is currently on leave and will not be back for another 2 weeks. If it is helpful to know, he is the Station Commander.

Do not wiat for your ship date to re-no your contract - you will be screwed. Do it now! If your recruiter won't help, get your butt to MEPS. Do not take "no" for an answer. Be persistent, do not quit, and if you do, then you aren't cut out to be a Ranger.

Ranger Bill, Ranger JLTW!!!,
Thank you for your response. This is exactly what I needed to hear. Another recruit that went with me to MEPS is at MEPS today to reneg his contract. If he can get his contract renegotiated before his ship date I sure as hell can too.
I will post a sitrep within the next week. My recruiter should be returning from leave soon and I'm going to press my point with him personally.
Re: Enlisted Future Soldier 68W
Rangers,
SITREP
I went into the recruiting station on Thursday and spoke with the recruiter who had denied me my renegotiation. He took back what he said after I firmly pressed my position. At the moment I have two recruiters who are looking to either score me RIP or Special Forces and are speaking with MEPS counselors to check the status of these slots.
I have done countless hours of research just reading these forums about every aspect of being a Ranger. I'm not saying in the least that I know anything at all about being a Ranger, but I do understand the job description.
As for Special Forces, I don't know much at all. I've been away from a computer for the past few days and I will be for the rest of the weekend so I won't have much time to read up. However, I'm told that once completed with Special Forces training I make the jump straight to Staff Sergeant which doesn't sound all too bad. I'm aware that there is plenty of smoke especially coming from uneducated assholes like myself, so I won't assume anything more until I know more.
I have until October 20th for a slot to open up. From what the recruiter told me, if I do not get it in my contract that I should not worry - he showed me the request form that I could file from my first duty station. Common sense tells me everyone and their goldfish fills that form out at their first duty station so I'd go so far to say it's not likely I get my shot once I'm in. My ASVAB score was an 83 (I wish I marked down my GT score).
I'll be getting my PT scores up for scrutiny soon.
