Introduction

Post by Iquark »

Rangers,

My name is Ian, and I want to be and Airborne Ranger. I'd be lying if I said this was a lifelong dream, and that I grew up with a tan beret in my dreams, but it has become something of an obsessive desire over the past 4-6 months.

I'm in a little different situation than most the intros I've read on the site as I'm a prior Air Force Academy Cadet who left after a year and a half from the class of 08'. I'm currently 23 and after getting most of my degree finished I started to realize how much I miss the military. I looked back at the reasons I left the academy and realized that I was just a bit too immature to deal with the lifestyle at the time, but now I miss those things which I used to hate.

I started my recruitment process at the beginning of February, and have had the ASVAB and my paperwork finished since 12-FEB. I require a medical waiver for 2 knee surgeries and that is what apparently is holding up my packet from getting completed. The surgeries were all done prior to my time in the AF and have passed a DODMERB initial flight physical with an interim PQ. As of now, I have a bit of hope after the last round of further paperwork that I will see a result from my Med-Read in the next week so that I can go to MEPs and physical.

My goal is to become a 13F, and baring an option 4/40 due to the medical waiver, I will be working my ass off in BCT to earn a spot in RIP. I have been spending the past 4 months getting into the best shape of my life (better than 4 dig summer at USAFA) hoping that I can compete just to get a chance at RIP.

I am hoping that by being a member of this site I can learn a little more about FO's in Battalion, and get help with a few of my other preparations that I'm making for BCT/Abn/RIP. Also I did not find a Newts category for an avatar so I chose the most neutral one I could see. Thank you for your time Rangers,

VR,

Ian

Welcome to the site.

I will say, you've already quit once. What says you have what it takes to make it as a Ranger F.O.?

Ranger Bravo57,

I quit once when I was 19 and had no idea what life was really like. I was immature, and not ready to take the amount of responsibility that I received after 4* year. I don't look at being young as an excuse for giving up, but now that I understand a little more about what they were trying to teach me I realize my mistake.

I have what it takes to become a Ranger F.O. because the biggest lesson that I learned at USAFA was that you never give up, you can always do 1 more. It may have taken me awhile to figure it out and put it into practice, but it's helped me out a shitton over the past couple of years.

Ranger RangerRon thank you for the welcome.

Ranger Bravo57,

Roger on the site rules, and as to the PT I have not done a full timed PT in a few months. I will do one after work and the recruiters this afternoon and get back to you.

Ranger Bravo57,

I did my diagnostic PFT:

Push-ups: 67
Sit-ups: 74
Pull-ups: 11
2 Mile Run: 14:27

The push-ups were a bit of a shock to me as I've been training them a bunch, but I need to increase the effort on them I see now. The rest seemed about right for where I'm at at this moment.

I'll reserve judgment on the quitting thing.

for those PT scores, you're ok with them, or you're ok with them in relation to where you think you should be on a progressive scale of improvement based on where you started at XX date?

because a 14:27 is going to be very painful in RIP, and more painful in BN if you gut your way through RIP. and there's plenty of room for improvement on the PU and SUs.

some of the newer guys can correct me if things have changed, but next APFT you do, do the PU, SU, run, Pull ups, in that order to replicate life. if you just typed a different order, that's fine.

good luck.

Ranger KW Driver,

I'm only okay with the PT scores as far as where I expected myself to be in relation to where my training regiment is so far. I was happy with the run score because when I started my new PT schedule I had a hard time doing 8 min miles for 2 miles, but my goal is surpass 13:00 as much as I can. My initial goal has been to do 80+ in PU/SU for the 2 min, and be able to pump out more if I had more time. I need to work harder at this I see now.

Thank you for the correction on the order in which to do things, and you comments on my PT scores.
