Introduction of myself
Hello Rangers and everyone else.
My name is Dustin and I just signed my contract this past Saturday up at MEPS KC. 11x - Option 40. I ship out 27 May 2009 and begin my much desired quest towards joining the ranks of you fine Rangers and serve beside you.
I am 24 and currently a police officer in the civilian world.
I have been reading this site and others and just today i found a PDF of the Ranger handbook thanks to this site and i have already been reading that too.
Dont really know what else to say, just wanted to make a brief intro and go back to reading as much as i can to help better prepare myself.
Thanks to all the Rangers and other people on here for providing such a good source of information.

Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood.

Yeah thats probably not a typical route to go. lol. but its the route i have been given.Zonk 1/75 wrote:Cop to Ranger? Interesting approach........... Good luck..................
Do PT!
I graduated HS and immediately got a very good paying job in sales and didnt go to college or join when i was 18 like i should have. I was blinded by the money i was making like any 18/19 y.o. would. Well like so many times happens in sales, my company i was working for closed up shop in my city and i decided against relocating to another state. I bounced from a few different jobs before deciding i needed a career not a job. That landed me in the Police academy. My brother has been a cop for 9 years now so it wasnt something foreign to me. I graduated the academy back in the spring of 07 and have been working as an officer since. I was with a small town dept. and with the recession hitting smaller towns hardest all of us full time officers got cut to part time and eventually laid off all together. That is when the military option came back into my mind. Its something i wanted to do when i was 18 out of HS but made the mistake of not doing it. I decided im not passing it up again.
I started out talking to an Army recruiter about Airborne Infantry when i first started my research back in Nov. I took the ASVAB and scored a 92 with a 127 gt score. Then i talked to a close friend of mine who is a JTAC for the USAF and he got me highly motivated into looking into USAF special ops (CCT and TACP) went to the AF recruiter and started the process, went and did my medical workup at MEPS and thats when bad news came. I got 1's on every section except in hearing i got an H2 that DQ'd me from all Spec Ops in the AF and they wouldnt do any waivers at all. Sooo i decided to use my ASVAB score and go for an intel job. waiting through, Jan, Feb and March with no job drop and finally decided that im doing what i originally wanted to do, the thing that has felt "right" from the beginning, and went back and asked the Army recruiter if he had an 11x w/ opt. 40 open and he said yes. a week and a half later here i am with a signed contract and a date to leave.
On the PT subject, yeah, i need to keep motivated on that. Today i read about the hundred push ups program and took the initial test and got 32 straight push ups before muscle failure. not terrible but not great. When i did my final PT test for the Academy i got 54 push ups, 57 sit ups (both were one minute tests and i was still going up to the time limit, so 2 minute tests make me happy, lol.) I also ran our 1.5 miles in 10:15. I know im not in that kind of shape right now as that was 2 years ago now. but i dont think im too far off from being able to get back into that shape and better since our PTs werent really THAT bad looking back on it.
Thank you for the good luck wishes Ranger Zonk and sorry for the personal info dump, but it helps me remember where ive come from to get to this point of what im about to do and keeps me focused on the goal.

Welcome, and congratulations on your opt. 40. Now the hard work begins, you need to PT daily and I would suggest twice a day until you leave for Benning. No excuses, no trying, just do it! Fitness is an important aspect of a Ranger's life and the sooner you realize that and tune your body into it, the better prepared you'll be. I would also suggest that you read the Ranger Creed and start living it NOW!!! You have been given a wonderful opportunity and it is important that you realize how lucky you are.
Good luck, and if I can help you in any way or if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Roger that?

Re: Introduction of myself
Congratulations for enlisting to serve our country as an Army Ranger. Whatever PT you do before you ship, be certain to not over-do it. The last thing you want is to develop a case of shin-splints or other over-use injury before you ship. There are a number of Rangers on this site who are current LEOs.
WE NEED MORE RANGERS!

kerka - you will refrain from using the word "hooah" until you have earned the right to say it on this site after passing RIP.kerka wrote:Hey buddy we both leave with option 40s the same day! hooah!
allmylife - Although what you say is correct, you will stay in your lane, we have enough Rangers on this site to do all the policing we need.allmylife wrote:kerka this could of been said in a pm.

Cop to Ranger....deja vu.
Your LE background should give you a good advantage/head start over your peers.......which means you don't really have an excuse for failure. Good luck to you. Never quit.
