RangerStew wrote:Great story. It brought back a few memories. The first night we spent in the jungle we all sealed ourselves inside our ponchos like a cocoon to keep all the nasties out. Anyway, in the middle of the night I wake up flailing around and screaming because I dreamed a vampire bat had landed on me. Twas slightly embarrasing, at least until a few nights later when my TL did the same thing; although his was a scorpion dream.
In 1992 I had this dream, except it wasn't a dream. I fell asleep in the PB, but instead of wearing my gloves I decided to go ahead and just put my hands in my pockets. That was a big mistake. I woke up with a small triangular bite bite mark on my left index finger and blood on my hand. I ended up getting sent to Howard AFB to get pumped full of immuglobin and Rabies shots. It was great fun. It did get me out of the rain for a few days though. We hit JOTC during the rainy season that year.

It is, Ranger Silverback. I am not authorized to see it, though I am sure that you are.

Ranger zenk0006,

Your story is very well written and thoroughly enjoyable. I would appreciate reading more stories such as this.

Nancy,
The forum was made private in response to attacks directed against the site. I brought it up because it may be time to reopen the forum to registered users if there is enough interest .

Ranger Silverback,

I would be very interested in having this forum open to members. Would be great to read the stories.

I'm in. That was one of the best forums here. It was like having a book of awesome short stories. I was sad to see it go (private), but understand the reason.

I agree, ANGRYCivillian. I understand the need for privacy, for the stories are very real. I learned a lot from reading them, laughed a lot, too. There were some that I'd go back and read now and again, and some that would get a laugh every time they were bumped, something like every 6 months or so... just because they could be.

My favorite line from that thread... "Are you dead, Ranger?"

No matter what happens, if you can answer "No" to that question, things WILL get better. 8)

Ranger zenk0006 and Ranger Silverback,

Was there ever a decision made to have a public forum for stories such as the one in this thread's original post by Ranger zenk0006? I understand if the decision was made to create a private forum for Rangers and other invited members. I wish to reiterate that the story was well-written and very interesting, which is why I am asking and would look forward to additional creative writings. Thank you.
