Introduction

Post by 1171 »

Greetings Rangers, SF, and others.

The name is Mike, I am 24 years old and have lived around the US Army all my life. I worked for 4 years with AAFES on Fort Stewart and more recently on Hunter AAF. During my time at Hunter I became inspired by the many Rangers and Special Forces I saw there. Both my father, and grandfather served with Army Special Forces and I have decided it is time to continue and live up to that legacy.

I am currently enlisting in the US Army and hope to leave early next year with an 11B / Airborne contract. I don't want to jump the gun on a 18x contract as I am not where I need to be physically for such, no more than a civilian fatbody at the time being. Ive been pushing hard the past two months, but its slow going. I could barely do a push up at the start of this process. I want to spend my time in Airborne to sharpen my skills and my body to the utmost. I am confident I can survive FT Benning, and the information I have gleaned from this site has been indispensable.

I will continue to shut up and read up.

As always, thank you all for your service, and your time.

This is good advice.

Ranger Bravo57. Self performed a PT test this morning. Results are as follows

Pushups: 23

Situps: 44

2 Mile: 19:32

Also my stats are
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 190lb

Still very well below where I need to be. I recently left my job and have begun devoting myself fully to my workouts. My workouts consist so far of 7 Mile backpack walk in the morning (currently a 25lb pack), completed in just over 2 hours. weight training and crunches throughout the remainder of the day. A 2 mile run late in the afternoon. With a day of rest every 2 days. Ive been doing this for just over two weeks, since I have moved back to my hometown. Anything at all that could be helpful I will listen with open ears.

Ranger JLTW, I have contemplated that very much. My father advised me to spend some time in the 'Regular Army' before launching myself into something like SF, or Rangers. I will tell you after viewing this site, that argument has faded a bit. I have been planning to discuss it with my recruiter, once I have all the questions I want answered by him organized. As an aside, I am currently on a processing hold due to LASIK I had performed earlier in the year. Just waiting out the requisite time limit until January.
