Rangers,
I talked to my recruiter again today and was intent on signing my contract. I had already taken the ASVAB a couple days ago(scored 81). However when I got to his office he told me that there were no option 40 slots available and there wouldnt be any open until late July or late August because the army doesnt load them until then?? However he said that I could enlist now as infantry and then in a couple months he could just renogoitate my contract when the slots opened up. There is a recruiter at my station who is a Ranger and he said that my recruiter is not trying to fuck me he is just looking out for me and trying to get me more money because of a senior enlistment bonus thing. The money is not important to me though. Any advice for me would be appreciated.

Tell your recruiter that you want Option 40. He can call you when one is available -- you will be amazed how quickly it will become available.

Of course your recruiter is not trying to screw you. He's doing his job and that is to enlist soldiers according to the Army's needs at the moment and to make his quota, which is how he is evalutated. Thank your recruiter for taking the time to try and get you an Option 40. Be polite and appreciative and tell him that when he can get you an Option 40 to give you a call. You'll probably get a call within a few days. Your story is pretty much told here every couple of weeks. There are plenty of DEPs on this site who recently, and in the past, have received the contract they want wanted by not accepting anything else. Holding out for what you want will be easier than renegotiating later.
