Introduction
Hello Rangers. My name's Mike, I'm 18 years old. I enlisted in the U.S Army with an 11x, option 40 contract. I wrestled in high school, have a great amount of mental toughness, and will stop at nothing to achieve the greatest title in the military: an Army Ranger. I finished up my first year of college, intended political science major. My father is former SF, and gives me very useful info, however, I feel that I need advice from current and former Rangers to get the full effect. Thanks

Rangers,
I forgot to post my APFT results. I took the test about a month ago with my recruiter and some other recruits.
2 min. Push-ups: 73
2 min. Sit-ups: 78
2 mile run: 12:50
Didn't do any chin ups during this APFT, but do them pretty regularly during workouts in sets of 12.
These numbers have probably gone up, i workout pretty regularly. But my plan is to get in pretty decent shape for BCT, not to burn myself out, because from what I'm told, BCT gets you in really good shape.

BCT will NOT get you "in really good shape" to be an Army Ranger! Ranger Standards are MUCH higher. Continue running and working out to get into the best shape possible.......you're going to need it if you're going to be a Ranger!!!!!

Decent recovery from your not-so-decent intro, wildman.
And Ranger Slowpoke is absolutely correct. Basic training will NOT get you into shape for R.I.P.
In fact, basic training is a cake walk compared to Ranger standards.
Oh, and your mental toughness is no where near what it needs to be. Trust me on this one, young pedigwon.
You will find very helpful information here.
And most of all........NEVER QUIT.
Welcome.

rangers,
Took a PT test this morning
Push ups- 78
sit-ups-82
Did not take the 2-mile test. I tried to run too far a distance recently and came down with some shitty shin splints. So i'm just going to take it easy on the running until basic. I have been working cardio in other ways though, and i'm a pretty good runner so my 2 mile time should still be pretty good.

You are wise to stop running until your shin splints are healed. All DEPs pay attention to this. Too many of you run too much before all your soft tissues have developed enough strength to handle it. Running speed and distance must be increased gradually over time to avoid shin splints.
