Introduction

Post by Equalizer »

Hello
My name is Lance. I am 29 years old, from Orange County California, I am prior service 82nd 11C. I ETS'ed on 07Jan2002. Since then I've helped my gradfather start a company servicing A/C units for companys like Boeing, and Northrup Grumman. Once that got good and stale in 2006 I began the Fire Academy. I am scheduled to graduate 1Nov2008. I never had the honor to serve with men such as yourselves, don't get me wrong I served with many great men, many were tabbed, many came from the Regiment but I get the feeling it's just not the same. Then my brother in law deployed (MI) and that was the last straw for me. I can't sit here any longer while brave men fight and leave me behind. I believe this is a powerful war we are in. People (liberals, and media) have a sickness of comparing this war to Vietnam (which my father served proudly!) but I tend to think it's a bit more like WWII. Then we fought Hitlers fascism, and hatred for a different people, and today I believe it's the same. Hitler killed millions of Jews, and the Muslim extremist wish to kill millions of non Muslims. So I think it's about time I join the fight, and if I fight, I wish to fight with the very best on my right and left. I do appologise for the lengthy intro but, you wanted us to tell about ourselves. Also as I am not a DEP quite yet I could not find the "NEWTS" gallery so I chose a DEP image. I am excited for my new journey !!
Somewhere someone is training to kill you. He trains with minimal food and water, in austere conditions. The only thing clean on him is his weapon, and he made his gear. His ruck weighs what it weighs, his runs end when you stop chasing him. He is not concerned about how hard it is he knows either he wins, or dies. He doesn't go home, he is home.

Lance,

I believe you should have posted your intro in the veteren area. Someone will be along shortly to square ya away.

Welcome to the site. Thanks for your previous service in " The Airplane Gang " and your motivation and desire to serve with a Scroll on your shoulder is commendable.

29 is kinda " old " to join the ranks of Rangers but very possible.

I wasn't sure if "veteran" meant "Ranger Veteran".

Very possible, I had a 30 yr old private under me in my team.

I appreciate your motivation to Get Some. Remember there are other ways to get some. The path you are starting down has no room for 99% wanting to be a Ranger. You have to "DO", and when you do...... It has to be 100% and then some.

Thanks for your prior service with the Eighty Duuuuuuuuuuuuuce....... 8)

Okay, sorry about the confusion
Do you guys hear of 29 year olds starting a Ranger career at all, or am I way off the DZ here ?

There are several of us on this forum that completed the RIP at 30yrs or above, myself included.

Many others have completed Ranger school well into their 40's.

Anything is possible with enough of what I call 'grit' & sheer determination.

Ah
That's what I love to hear !! I know I can do it. I know when it comes down to it, when everything else fails, I have the heart to make because I feel there's nothing more at this time that would be more gratifying than donning a tan beret. I once completed a 36 mile march, full gear, North Carolina summer heat with a fractured right foot and factured left shin. On a break my platoon sgt. came to and asked how I was doing and I said " not good sgt. but I can make it" he responded with " I know you can Lance, you're all heart". I think of this day with both agony, and accomplishment, and I think of it when things get tough, and I know they will.

No. It is because it is their name. Take the post before me by rgrking. You would not call him king, nor would I. His name is rgrking.

In a previous post, you said guys, not good. As a whole we mostly are Rangers. This is a Ranger site, the guys on here are our guests as are you.
