Welcome back Grasshopper. Are you still planning on going to college? If you're not, then make sure you get what you want in writing and tell them that anything other than an Option 40 contract is unexceptable.

Welcome back, Chris. I see you avoided the vultures for almost a year. Now I have a task for you: Please tell me, in 250 words or so, why you want to be a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment. I'd like to see your thoughts, don't cut and paste. Post your thoughts on this thread not later than midnight, Friday, 25 April 2008. Never, never quit!

Grasshopper wrote:Thank you Ranger rgrking and Ranger Rangerguru, for your welcoming comments. I have to this current point not made my decision to either do the D.E.P. program or go to college (After High School). I've talked to my Guidance Counselor, but they are pretty anti-military (So not much help there). I would appreciate any comments Rangers on my situation, but I know the ultimate choice must be made by me. Thanks again Rangers, I will never quit.
My advice? Do both. Get your option 40 and serve in the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Get the G.I. Bill and all the bonus $$$ you can grab and serve proudly as an elite Ranger.
Then get out and get your degree and let them pay for your education.

Welcome back to the site.
Now go out and run till you puke.

Grasshopper,

Never speak to a school guidance counselor about joining the military. When I had a meeting with mine before I graduated high school, the last thing they wanted was for me to join up. This could be rumor but I heard somewhere along the road that schools are rated on their percentage of graduates that enter into major universities. Thus if you opt to go military, it hurts their numbers and may look less attractive to more wealthy families who are deciding which school district to move into.

[quote="Grasshopper"]Ranger Jim I have wanted to be in the military for as long as I remember. I discovered the US Rangers when I was 9, and have never looked back. I have always viewed the US military in the highest esteem, the Rangers topping my list. I read the Ranger creed for the first time when I was 11, but I was unable to grasp the real meaning of the passages. “Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my countryâ€
