They volunteered and didn’t do what they said, fine let them run to Canada but revoke their US Citizenship and deny them future access to the US. They came to the Army so they got no bitch.

I say just shoot the fuckers...

If someone is DRAFTED into service, I can understand (but NOT agree with) them choosing the chicken shit, yellow bellied, bullshit way out...some folks just ain't cut from the right cloth....there are sheep and there are wolves...

sheep can't fight anyway...so let em run...I don't want them left or right of me anyway...

If I was drafted tomorrow, I'd go...If the best my country had to throw at the enemy was my old, tired, out of shape, beer drinking ass...let's get r done!!! I wouldn't want to go...but I would go...

But when you VOLUNTEER your service...you can't just say "oh...wait...I didn't actually mean I would go to WAR!!!"

So again I agree with Andy, the penalty is too weak...I say shoot their ass!!!

Five years is the max penalty??

Seems to me that the deserter should be in Leavenworth until every Joe who deployed in his unit comes home .
That means not before every one of the lifers has retired, and the dead too, of course. When they can hold their loved ones, then the deserters get to.

We should put pressure on Canada to return them - there's no punishment involved in having to live in one of the few places on earth where the standard of living is higher than in the USA & where mommy & daddy can come visit anytime.

Couple of years ago, I'm arguing the war in Iraq with a Liberal I know. He's spouting all this bullshit about how it's just like Vietnam, and I'm telling him how he doesn't know shit and this war is NOTHING like Vietnam. Now I'm rethinking that....as time goes on, the war in Iraq is more and more like Vietnam only the political parties in power are reversed!

I have a friend I work with who is really interested in enlisting. After listening to all my bull shit stories he is looking at something in special operations. Once I realized he was serious about it, I quit telling him about all of the cool-guy stuff. Instead, am trying to impress upon him that he will more than likely be in harms way and have to kill with malice and forethought. I'm trying to prevent him from joining and later on saying "Holy shit! I didn't sign up for this.." So far, he seems to understand the implications. (Personally, I think he would be a great soldier, no matter where he goes..)

BTW, wasn't desertion during wartime a capital offense at one time?.. :?
