My Introduction

Post by travelinman »

Hello Sirs,

My name is Ben and I am currenty considering a enlistment in the active duty army. The MOS I am considering is 35F (Intelligence Analyst) with Airborne in the contract. I was hoping to get more information regarding attending RIP after Airborne. Thank you all and I hope to soak this board like a sponge.

I wanted to apologize for not capitalizing "Army" in my previous post.

Ben,
A man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. Frankly, yours left a lot to be desired. Please tell us more: Where are you from? How old are you? What is your education level? What gives you the idea that you want to be an Intel-type? If you truly want to earn a place in the 75th Ranger Regiment, you came to the right site. We pride ourselves on the young men that this site has assisted. For your initial task please self-administer a PT test. complete this task no later than midnight, tuesday25 March 2008. Never, never quit!

Welcome and thanks for your interest in Army Rangers. I may be a bit biased, but you will not find a better opportunity anywhere. But make the decision that is right for you.

I appreciate the opportunity to square away my piss poor initial impression I provided with that "introduction".

My name is Ben and I am 23 years old. I currently live in San Jose, California. I work full-time and am classified as a college sophomore. My declared major is Global Studies. What intrigues me most about an enlistment under the 35F MOS is my interest in International Affairs and Politics. I don't believe my thirst for knowledge when it comes to Area Studies and Immersion will ever be quenched. My interest in the Ranger side of the house comes from my strong work ethic, my love for the outdoors and my penchant for not hesitating to get my hands dirty. My desire to join the military stems from my personal belief that I am an action person who feels responsible for stepping up and making changes in the place of others who cant/wont.

My purpose of joining this forum is to gain information that will benefit me in the unlikely event I would be given a chance to attend RIP, post Airborne school. I have just begun the enlistment journey and have already absorbed numerous tips from reading the posts in the site to ensure that my contract is squared away.

I spend more days than not in the Gym and have been involved in CrossFit for a little more than two years. I need to purchase a 65lb vest or better weight bearing pack to begin rucking. The PFT scores I can give you right now are as follows:

5mi run 37:51(taken 3 days ago)
2mi Run 13:12(taken yesterday)
Pull Ups 13 (dead hang)
Push Ups 65 (last week) /2 min)
Sit Ups 72 (last week) / 2min)

O.K. Ben,
You're supposed to do the Pushups, situps, 2 mile run and pull ups in the same day, one right after another.

What you posted above does nothing for us to help you.

Try again wildman, this time, do it correctly.

Welcome Ben.

If you really want to do the International Politics and Foreign Area stuff, there are other opportunities out there in the Army as well other than in 35F. Research it with your recruiter. There are opportunities to use your degree in the Military Intel community, SF community (especially if you speak another language), or if you become an officer there is also the Foreign Area Officer (military attache) program as you progress past company level officer.

Find out for yourself what it is that you really want to do and give it all you have, whether you become a Ranger, a MI analyst, or something else. Keep improving that PT, listen to the fine advice of the Rangers on this site, and good luck.

In your third paragraph you said:

"My purpose of joining this forum is to gain information that will benefit me in the unlikely event I would be given a chance to attend RIP, post Airborne school."

The key word that troubled me in that sentence was "unlikely". If you believe that it is unlikely that you will go to RIP, then you won't go to RIP. If you want it you must push for it, and never give up, until you get it. Never quit, never surrender.

Namechanger,

My statement "in the unlikely event" was made solely based on what I had heard about the 35F MOS getting slots in RIP. My objective is to enlist as a 35F, attend Airborne school and prove myself worthy of being an exception to the rule. All I can do is bust ass in PT, maintain a sharp bearing and showcase my capabilities and maybe somebody will recognize my motivation.
