Many executives see themselves as prodigious multitaskers -- checking e-mail while simultaneously talking on the phone, eyeing stock quotes, and performing all sorts of other busywork. But they're probably doing a lousy job if they're trying to focus on more than four things at once, a recent study maintains.

Multi-tasking is a woman thang! My wife can talk on the phone, play a computer game, watch a TV program, and crochet...all at once and never miss a beat on any of it. Men, on the other hand, only do real well when they concentrate on one thing at a time.

At one time I reported to an exec who was crippled in Battle of the Bulge.
During different crises at the bank he would tell me "Lefty, are they shooting real bullets yet?"
