Why don't you just prepare yourself for what you are about to enter. Don't worry about hearing stories!! All you need to do is PT followed by some more PT and then when you are done doing that, do some more PT!!! Once you make it through RIP and get to Regiment, then you can find out some stories from your fellow Rangers after you have earned their respect.

X2 This is going to be your journey. You have to prepare yourself for it. No one can do it for you. All you need to know is that it's hard. When you think of the hardest thing that you have ever done, it's going to be much harder than that.

Basic AIT Jump School and RIP are all it the way of you making it to Regiment.

By the way good luck and I hope you get everything that you are looking for.

Once you make it you will have your own stories.....

But if you fail it will be like thousands that say ...."well they wanted me to be a Ranger".

Damn X, your in Gig harbor?

Your close to 2nd Ranger Batt, why not show up sometime and by the time you leave you'll have your own story to tell.

All joking aside, good luck. Your making a great decision and you will not regret it if you make it in.

if by "controlled descent" you ment mostly or just sorta vertical, with at least one point of contact on the rope during the descent, and "I crashed into the ground with bone crunching speed somewhere near the rope." well, that might be accurate-ish :D
