Introduction

Post by kyelkhunter »

Hello Rangers,
Name is David, currently in class 02-08. Just finished up Mountains and will be moving on to Camp Rudder in January after exodus. I'm a 34 yr old infantry Lt. (AKA Grandpa to most of the guys in my company). I'm just looking to pick up what I can from the site and also contribute where I can. Darby and Merrill are still pretty fresh, so I might be able to help out there. One quick observation though. I see a lot of the intros talking about PT scores, but the mental factor of Ranger school is just as important. I'm no PT stud, 280-290 for my age group. So I can tell you what has gotten me through so far is mental toughness and attention to detail. We've had lots of 300+PTers fall by the wayside because of patrols, spots, or SOR's, not to mention injuries, etc., so keep that in mind when preparing.

Not trying to overstep my bounds, as I know I haven't gotten my tab yet (18 long days at Rudder). Just noticed a lot of focus on PT in the intros.

Great site, look forward to learning as much as possible from all the experience on this board.

Welcome to the site Sir! 8)
Thank you for serving and keep driving on towards your goal. Never, never quit.

I believe much of the focus on PT you have seen in the intro posts is mostly for the young DEPs that have not even begun OSUT or Airborne school yet. Many of them have never PT'd except the minimum required in high school and others who come here who are completely out of shape.

Your observation is quite correct, and I concur, there is much more to arriving at Regiment or earning the coveted Ranger Tab than a PT score. Much of the mental toughness you mention is taught on an individual basis in the back rooms with our Mentor program.

Nothing quite like being one of the only 2 Ranger Classes I believe that get a slight break during the Christmas holiday. At 34 years of age you represent the older generation well Sir. You might have wanted to tell us how many patrols you've passed, but no matter good luck in Florida and welcome to the site.

\Three for four so far bugsy, 2/2 in Darby and 1/2 in mountains. Needed to learn a couple things on the one no-go anyway, so I'm better off for it.

Yeah, it sucks to be old, but on the other hand it helps motivate the youngsters when the old man is humping the SAW+ 1000 rounds up hogback, or the 240 on a 8 click movement to contact
