During the Cold War, similar claims were made regarding the Soviet capability. We won the Cold War and after the collapse of the U.S.S.R. we learned that the claims were probably over stated. Not that I believe that this is the case here, but who knows what time will tell.

Would more accurately and intelligently read....while the Chinese make tons of money off of us because we shop at places such as Wal-Mart
" While we save tons of money off the cheap labor of China because we shop at places such as Wal-Mart"
This is not to say that Wal-marts business model is not without its Faults. Their use of political clout to use Eminent Domain legislation to its advantage is especially disturbing. However their use of free trade, employment of the otherwise "minimally employable" ie giving jobs to elderly, mentally handicapped, physically disabled when others will not, affordable pharmacy, and new low cost medical clinics are commendable.
And throughout history countries that relied on each other in trade rarely went to war with one another, only after trade is restricted do countries feel the need to use force to seize goods.

All the marbles....Tenn-RGR wrote:What would China possibly gain by attacking/fighting us , or vise versa?TC204 wrote:They were a capable foe in Korea, but we would never fight that kind of ground war with them again. Their economy is tied in with their military so all purchases of Chinese products finances the military. A total Tarif is what's needed to impede their military progress.
Right now our nukes greatly out number theirs, so an exchange would be favorable now compared to 20 years down the road. Any exchange with them wouldn't be too smart though. Their aircraft and smart weapons are getting up to par with ours but they don't have the numbers yet that we have. If we ever went at it, smart weapons and aircraft would be very widely used.
Is there any word out regarding how well trained their troops are?

You never bite the hand that feeds you and vise versa. As long as there is money to be made and products to be purchased war is the last thing on ones mind.
There has been the talk in the past on the site regarding a Chinese internal struggle. Unemployment going up as the farmers become city folks and factory jobs are not enough to cover the influx of manpower from the rural areas.
I once thought that after the 2008 Olympics there will be a sudden deflation in jobs and then.... It becomes interesting.

China to me will be in civil turmoil by the year 2015/20. Russia is trying to become the leader in the Caspian Sea boarder countries. And with that maybe increase some clout….
Rhetoric from Putin so far seems to be for internal consumption (within the Caspian Sea community).
