OIF "Campaigns"
So, I've been unable to ID the answer to this simple but surprisingly vexing question:
WHAT ARE THE DATES OF OIF 1, 2, 3, Etc?
I was in OIF 1 from the beginning until Mar 3 of 04. Was I also in OIF 2?
Does anybody out there have the cut lines for each rotation?

Re: OIF "Campaigns"
Excellent question. Initially, we had the invasion of Iraq (OIF), when it appeared that we would rotate forces we designated OIF1, OIF2, etc. This became confusing, so it was discontinued. The rotational designations are now assigned by JCS. The rotation numbers denote the arrival of the initial unit in theater and the second is the last departure from theater. For example OIF 04 - 06 and the current OIF 06 - 08. Enduring Freedom follows the same format, but units serve shorter deployments. In addition, there are no campaign stars currently authorized for OIF/OEF, because no campaign credit has been announced.B 2/75 wrote:So, I've been unable to ID the answer to this simple but surprisingly vexing question:

I was there from FEB 05 until JAN 06. I would just say I was in OIF 3 because I got there early in 2005. My beer math is a little fuzzy, but I figure if you were there in the start then you were OIF 1. If you got there in early 2004 then you were OIF 2. So on and so along. I based mine off of when I got there, and when I spent the bulk of my time there, not when I left.
(I didn't even know that anyone was calling it OIF anything after 2 or 3)
Is that roughly what everyone else is doing?

Sorry Jim. I reread your post a couple of times. Your answer is better than mine.

I was under the impression units were dubbin 1 - whatever according to their units deployments.,..

Re: OIF "Campaigns"
Actually all the cool guys refer to is as "The invasion" ok not everyone, just washed up old Soldiers who are stuck in the TOC (Me).Wade wrote:You were there for OIF 1. OIF 2 began at about Mar-Apr 04 when the 1st CAV DIV established TF Baghdad. This lasted until Feb-Mar 05. OIF 3 began at about Feb-Mar 05 when the 3rd ID replaced the 1st CAV DIV...I'm assuming it lasted until Jan-Feb 06 (11 months). In which case I was there for a little tiny bit of OIF 1, all of OIF 2, and most of OIF 3. Of course, with the rotation schedules changing the way they have recently, who knows what rotation they're in now.B 2/75 wrote:So, I've been unable to ID the answer to this simple but surprisingly vexing question:

My BN S1 has mandated that when we write NCOERs it must be designated OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 05-07.
As far as how the official designation is determined I have no f-----g clue.
