my introduction
everybody. my name is sparky. i have just turned 19 years old. i graduated from high school in 06 and have since attended a local state college on scholarship for two semesters. i have still not chosen a major or a career path, as i am still unsure of where i want my life to take me. but one thing i can say in earnest; at this point in my life i want nothing more and nothing less than to be a ranger.
in 10 hours i will be going with my recruiter to take the asvab. when it comes time for me to sign a contract, i will only enlist if i am allowed the opportunity to go through the training and (god willing or not) join the ranks of the people i most look up to. i will not accept a lesser calling.
i am grateful for the help the posters on this site have given me. it has been an invaluable read. thank you all, and wish me luck.

I certainly do wish you luck, Sparky. You have a long tough road ahead of you but it'll be well worth it. My son's been in the 3rd Batt for almost 3 years with a year to go. At this time he doesn't think he'll reenlist or extend. He's a SGT now & said he never meant to make the Army a career but he may go into the Guard or Reserve to finish his 8 years. Any Ranger doing that has a wealth of knowledge & experience to pass down to those in the Reserve Component.
Again good luck.
Glenn.

Sparky, a man has only one opportunity to make a favorable initial impression. So far you are mediocre at best. One of the marks of a successful Ranger is his attention to details. Your writing and spelling leave a lot to be desired. Please make the effort to write in proper English. Use capital letters where appropriate. Other Rangers, who are less forgiving than me, will be along to welcome you. Never, never quit.

Thank you all, and Jim I apologize for my carelessness.
I did well on the ASVAB. My recruiter asked me about my willingness to reserve several contracts. He offered a 11x position with option 40, as well as a 68w with the airborne option. I told him that I would be very hesitant to sign on for anything other than a 68w option 40. He will continue to look and hopefully a position will come up. If worse comes to worse in the next few months, I may change my mind. Meanwhile, I will be here.

I must come off as a huge dick in writing, but I do greatly appreciate this forum, all the advice given, and every ranger here.
My recruiter just called me, and he has reserved me a contract for 68W Option 40. I go in to MEPS on Monday. I will leave to basic October 25. As dismayed as I am that I will have to wait so long, I am excited to have that much longer to prepare. If I find a question that hasn't already been answered (which isn't likely) I'll post in the proper forum, and meanwhile I appreciate the advice.
