RENO Contract

Post by Adam17 »

I had to drop one of my classes (have GED) and will only have 12 credits on my ship date (July 6). I currently have an 11x contract (with 70 on ASVAB) and am going to reno my contract sometime next week. My recruiter has a good idea that I want an Airborne contract this time around (I keep telling him I want a Ranger contract. Even before I had to reno he has always tried to shift my direction to airborne.) So my plan is to go to meps and not reno for anything except an 11x with opt 40. If they don't have a slot then I will keep in touch with the consoler for the next two months. Is there anything I missed in which this wouldn't work? Is it feasible?

you enrolled in that last class yet? have proof or that?

otherwise you ain't no grad and don't ave shit to bargain with.

if you are enrolled, you will be in the senior category(too complicated to break down further) and have a chance.

the only thing i will tell you is make sure your ducks are in a row when you go down to reno. you can't bargain if the other team is holding all the chips.

Yes hit_it I showed proof that I am enrolled in the class and my recruiter is going to call me next week to set up a time to go to meps.

My apologies, SFC Hit_it. What did you mean by this:
"the only thing i will tell you is make sure your ducks are in a row when you go down to reno. you can't bargain if the other team is holding all the chips."

Thank you for your help

Dude, if you don't know what that means, stay in college or go be a leg.

In other words, have all your shit together, otherwise you will NOT be able to bargain for a Ranger contract.

It amazes me folks who settle for something less then a Ranger contract.....recruiters have been doing the same stuff forever. You have to stand firm, and be ready to walk away if you don't get what you want....course, this only applies if you meet the MINIMUM requirements.

Ranger BadMuther, if there are no contracts available and I do not sign anything I will still be a DEP for 2 months. Will this give me greater leverage to get a contract because the army would loose me if I do not sign anything?

I would say so, but that is more of a question for SFC hit_it.

You must have already signed something to be a DEP, right?

Correct Ranger. I signed 11x thinking that since I had 6 months as a DEP I could reno when a contract showed up. I was amazed later how my recruiter always avioded the whole ranger thing even when I was bringing it up every few days. I had to drop a class and this gave me a chance to reno.

if you look back in the system but do not pick anything, you may lose the contract you do have. because in order to look at anything under your SSN, you have to be put back in the system as an APPLICANT, not an ENLISTEE (DEP).

Thank you, everyone for the help. I just talked to my recruiter and it takes 7-10 days to process my RENO stuff, so I will be looking for my opt 40 then.
