Intro

Post by rjalb1 »

Hello Rangers, my name is Roland; I'm from northern VA and I'm 19 years old. I recently finished my third semester of college and feel it's time for a change of pace. I aspire to work for the FBI, CIA, DoHS, or something of the sort and feel that military experience would be invaluable. I don't feel that I'm ready to continue with college at this juncture and would like to do something to further myself in the meantime. I've always had an interest in the military, and have dreamed of being a part of a special operations force such as your elite Rangers. I'm well aware of the task at hand and feel that If I give it my all I can make it.

you think you can get into the FBI, CIA, etc, without a degree? even with some experience in the military? something to consider. you will have to make the right choice for you, no one else can. so, good luck with it.

Thanks Rangers Steadfast and KW Driver. I hope to return to school after my service, but I believe it is indeed possible to get into a federal law enforcement agency without a degree.

It is highly unlikely, unless you want to work in the FCH (Federal Chow Hall).

There are thousands of young studs out there now with degree's and service time that you will be competing with. Think about it.

Welcome to the site.

Roland,
Over the past five or so years this site has been in operation, there have been multiple hundreds of young men like yourself come through these doors. Many of them have had dreams similar to yours of becoming a Ranger and then a future in some type of Federal law enforcement.

You came here for advice. You are getting it! On ArmyRanger.com we have active duty and former Rangers on this site for you to draw advice from, and many of these Rangers already are serving in second or third careers in law enforcement. They are now where you want to be. Why not listen to them? These men are all going to tell you you need to finish school. Heed their advice. You WILL need it later. You might as well get your degree now while you are still in school. I don't care if you don't like it. Out of the hundreds of intro's I've read similar to yours, I can't think of ONE person on this site that has been advised to leave college to become a Ranger. Not one. Why is that?

Do you realize that more than half of all the DEPs that even obtain an option 40 contract wash out somewhere along the way? What happens to you then? You may end up just like a bunch of other guys getting out of the Army a few years from now without a degree wearing a funny hat and flipping dead cow meat.

I don't want to see that happen to you. I wish you the best in your dream of becoming a Ranger, and especially your goals later. But don't be in such a hurry to get there. The Rangers have been around for a long time and we'll still need good Rangers after you've gotten your degree. And then you will be way ahead of the power curve instead of watching others pass you by.

Welcome. You're getting pearls of wisdom here. Remember, the 4 year degree is just the initial qualification for some of the agencies you mentioned. Even then, the competition is stiff. Good luck.

OK, Roland, you are certainly welcome here. We have assisted quite a few young men prepare for service with the 75th Ranger Regiment. However, you are the one who must earn your place. While many of us made a career of the Army, most Rangers serve only a few years on active duty. Service to one's country is a positive act, it separates you from your peers. If you go now, when you go back to college, you will be a more mature insightful individual, far better prepared for life than your peer who remained close to home. Whatever your decision is, you have to live with it -- so make a good one. Never, never quit.
