Introduction
Rangers,
I am re-introducing myself--7-8 months past my prior introduction--as an 18x DEP. I have spent 19 months at West Point, and the past half a year at school in Florida. After going back to school, I decided that enlisting was the option I wanted.
I enter as a prior service E-3 and ship out to AIT on 11 JAN. Due to my time spent at West Point, I am not required to attend basic. I was worried about this when I found out because I wasn't sure if I'd be ready to adjust back to a military lifestyle. However, I have remained in top physical shape since leaving the academy and began doing ruck runs 2 months ago to prepare me for SFAS in the spring. My last record PT scores at the academy were: 11:55 2mile, 92 pushups, 97 situps. I've been focusing on 10mi+ runs/rucks, 4-5mi ruck runs, and different swimming endurance exercises. I am unsure of what to expect out of AIT so I've been re-training myself in land nav and reviewing my 7-0 and Ranger Handbook with two ex-SOFs and Rangers.
I am taking this extremely seriously because I'm afraid that I won't be trained-up enough for the task ahead of me. I understand how difficult it is and don't want to take any chances. Any advice that anyone has is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

you probably want to quit running with a ruck. roadmarch instead. work up the weight, and pace. but use a walk with a long stride. 15 minute miles, for 12 is EIB standard.
if you continue to run with a ruck, you'll end up with knees and ankles like mine when you hit my age. that's not something you really want.
those were good PT scores, but how long ago was that? where are you objectively at now?

Yep, I'm thinking someone's inflating their scores just a wee bit for the sake of the company here.

What Ranger KW Driver has been nice enough to care about your well being more than you yourself care. Stand back and heed KW Driver tsco. Since you have ruck run & marched it is not necessary to keep doing it. All you need do is know you can do it and only do it for the military when called upon to do it. Should you injure yourself and it only takes one stone or twisting your knee, your military career may be history before you even get restarted.KW Driver wrote:ok stud, they're your knees...

Well thats that.
Good luck on your new direction. You may select an avatar from the DEP selection.

They have all said it already, but just in case you think they are bullshitting:
STOP RUCKING!
If you want to get in the right shape for long roadmarches, grab your 35lbs ruck, get on a stairmaster and do that for 30 minutes. Then get on a stationary bike with your ruck on for another 30 minutes.
Go to the pool and run laps. Get on a versaclimber. Do bodyweight exercises etc.
Doing a roadmarch or rucking somewhere in the woods is 90% mental anyways. However, beating your body down 90% of the time, will ensure that you'll never make it through one solid enlistment without arthroscopie's,

Question.
Why did you leave USMA? My 17 year old is going to apply, and I'm curious as to what insight you have.
Also - quit ruck-running. A couple of years on jump status will take its toll on your knees enough - you don't have to volunteer to fuck up your body.
