Military Pay

Military Pay
As a veteran here's my view on military pay. First of all the "pay gap" between military and civilian is not as high as perceived for many reasons; tax breaks, non taxable housing allowances and so forth. The media loves to portray servicemembers as victims. It always assumes that a military person on the outside will automatically be in a position to be earning a higher income; not true at all considering the cost of health care, housing, self paying retirement programs and so forth. The media loves to do the hard luck story of the military victim i.e. Specialist Suzy Rottencrotch, single mother of two can't survive on her military pay....GUESS WHAT, she would be having the same problems and more on the outside. So who deserves the most out of military pay raises? Instead of making raises across the rank structure, why not focus on where it is needed most! First of all the officers have nothing to complain about. But what about pilot so and so that could be making more money at United Airlines? BULLSHIT! The junior enlisted are in a training status for a good portion of their first enlistment, if they have a lot of financial burdens at such a young age they probably shouldn't be recruited into the military. The NCO ranks deserve the bulk of the pay raise. Think about it; they are usually on their second enlistment or beyond, they have made a commitment to the military as a profession, and in most cases they make big contributions to military effectiveness. I think it will be hard to differ with me but I'd like to see you post your views agreeing or disagreeing!
the young guys quality of life in most place DOES match the Air Force guys. with the Army going through a complete renovation of it's barracks on every major post, JOE is living good nowadays.
hell, they got "walk in" closets
and their own bathrooms
i had the wall locker we used to slide in the middle of the room to divide the place so we could get laid every once in a while.
the good ole days

You're Kidding!!!! Where do I go to Rejoin!!!! I got 36,0000 for college that I did utilize when I got out, That computed to 900.00 amonth plus I qualified for pell grants, and student loans, and didn't have to work if I didn't want to while going through school, plus I took Free College classes through Troy State while I was in. so I know that the benefits of college that are offered were worth it, hell I wouldn't have stayed in college if I hadn't gone into the Army first to learn how to stick with something. It taught me values that have helped me to this day! The money wasn't the greatest but the experience was and I look at the whole big picture of how marketable I became with that education I received plus having military on my resume did not hurt. I got hired on several outside jobs based upon the fact the employer thought that I was dependable due to the military background.hit_it wrote:the young guys quality of life in most place DOES match the Air Force guys. with the Army going through a complete renovation of it's barracks on every major post, JOE is living good nowadays.

I would have sacrificed a few COLA(cost of living adjustment) in order to renovate the shanty that we called home.
We had eight guys living in my room. We couldn't even keep ONE washing machine running for about 50 soldiers on our floor and everytime someone flushed the commode, whoever was in the shower got scalded.(talk about Section 8 housing)
BTW, across the street from us, the AF had 2 man rooms, gov't provided refrigerators, carpet, and a private bathroom for 2 rooms to share. They also called their humble abodes- "Dorm Rooms"
