Tomb of the Unknowns
This past week I won an essay contest at a National Youth Leadership Forum which allowed me to take part in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. Without a doubt it was the greatest and most honorable event I have ever taken part in.
I have a link to a video of the ceremony and am currently having trouble posting it in this forum.

SmileyTFJ,
It was the NYLF DID (Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy)
The essay was as followed:
Q: What does The Tomb of the Unknowns mean to you personally and how would participation in a wreath laying ceremony effect you.
A: The Tomb of the Unknowns stands not just as symbol of memory for the unidentifiable fallen. It also possesses a personal sense of value to my family and I. My grandfather was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II. In a hostile engagement during Operation Market Garden he went missing from his unit. To this day he is still listed as missing. My family and I have come to realize the very real possibility that he could have perished in battle. We also realize that he could in fact be currently buried as unknown. To participate in a wreath laying ceremony would provide a rare opportunity for me to pay tribute to those honorable unidentified while laying to rest a false sense of hope for my grandfather. I plan to someday serve in the U.S. Army as my grandfather once did. A privilege such as the one at hand would allow me connect to those who I hope to someday accept as brothers in arms while reviving a family bond.
