I would consider myself fortunate to have met a man such as COL Sydnor, much less have him as a teacher from time to time.

As far as his history, Google is your friend.

[quote]Retired Col. Elliot Sydnor, Ranger Department commander from 1977-1980, was the ground forces commander of the raid on prisoner-of-war camp Son Tay in North Vietnam in 1971. American forces tried to rescue 55 POWs who had been moved to another site shortly before the raid.

Sydnor said the raid was “a failure,â€

Planning and commanding a raid that crash landed a Chinook into a known POW Camp, 23 miles from Hanoi, within 20 miles of an NVA Airbase and 12,000 NVA soldiers with only 100 men is no short walk in the woods.

COL Sydnor was the Director of the Ranger Department (now the Ranger Training Brigade). He is an unassuming gentleman who I certainly admire. Great to hear he remains active as a substitute teacher.

He never talks about anything unless you ask him and when he substitutes a class he either goes by Mr. Sydnor or when he substituted the ROTC class he would sometimes let us call him "Bud". I didnt know that meant anything at first. Is most of the Ranger information he has relavant to today, or have the Rangers changed alot since the late 70's and 80's?
Don't worry about the information. The important thing to pay attention to is his example. I spent a week with COL Sydnor and he is very humble and very capable. The fact that Bull Simmons hand-picked COL Sydnor for Son Tay speaks volumes for his professional credentials.

I ran ino him at Wal-Mart and we talked for about an hour about the Rangers and also when he was part of the British SAS exchange program.
Listen numbnuts, three different times before this post, you say that he doesn't talk about things he did, but you're looking for information on him, because 'you respect him'. That's all fine and dandy, he's a goddamn stud and very well respected.

Now you post that you bumped into him at Wal-Mart TWO months ago and he's telling you everything under the blue sky for a fucking hour.

Make up your mind, which is it?
Who are you?
Why are you lying and looking for information?
Or did you just forget to throw that out there during your inquiry?
