Another 11B Intro

Post by sgtlittlefeet »

Good Evening Rangers, Vets, other soldiers, and civilians,

I'm an infantry Sgt/E5 in the NJARNG headed to the active duty side of the Army in about a month. I came here to Army Ranger just to lurk and read but decided to finally register and post an intro.

I'm not sure what all I can add, for right now my plan is to STFU and read and learn so that when I get to my AD unit I can take the collective knowledge of this board and apply it to my tasks. My eventual goal is to get airborne and Ranger qualified so I can put a 4187 in to serve in a Batt. I know it will take a minor miracle going that route, but as a prior service I was lucky to even keep my MOS through this process.

Looking forward to reading and learning more.

Welcome. I went active duty Army (and Ranger) from the NV National Guard. I am not sure about the 4187 route, someone with more experience might help you with that.

I got my 'Ranger' in my enlistment contract as an option 40 (called 'unassigned Ranger' back then) when I left the Guard. If there is any way to get an option 40 in writing, that would be the way to go.

That's what I did, however, things might be different now.

Thanks for the welcomes Rangers et al.

Ranger RTO,

Unfortunately things have changed a lot. Prior service gets treated like damaged goods. I had to walk away from the career counselor twice just to get Ft. Lewis as a duty station. After being told no chance at airborne, pretend opt. 40 doesn't exist, I had wanted Campbell and still was told no dice. So some time in a leg unit begging for schools and a 4187 will have to be my alternate route. I'm not bitching, well maybe a little, I'm just glad after 5 years and two tries I'm finally going active duty. It's just a speed bump on the way to where I really want to be.
