On the other hand, a good number of Canadians enlisted in the US Army to fight in Viet-Nam. This lad says he has not even been to basic training; so I have low expectations for him.Old Grunt wrote:Either someones blowin' smoke, or the Canucks are in deep kimchee.

I had the honor of carrying the 1/75 Colors at Arlington for a gentleman who was of canadian descent.
Lt. Col Swank. he was one of Darby's DDay troops. Great story, heard Darby was forming the Rangers while he was in the Canandian Army, asked if he could join and the Canucks said "NO". He goes AWOL and links up with Darby who says, "any man that will risk AWOL to serve with me deserves to be here." He ended up getting a battle field commission. He had them put SSG Swank on his cross because he said he never wanted to be an officer, but the Army made him.
What a great experience that was. Talking to his wife she knew more Ranger history than me and my counterparts combined. Also, they had the bag pipe player who played on Normady there. He was Ranger Swanks buddy and was captured shortly after the invasion and spent 5 years in prison.
Midway through the ceremony, the speaker sounds off with "play those pipes like you did on DDay" and from over the hill the this gentleman about 70 years old starts wailing on those pipes. I'm at right shoulder arms crying like a baby. Man it was something else..

And you justify my low expectations. We are not "you guys." Now read the FAQs.HiredGoon10 wrote:I realize my that 'drain as much knowlegde...' BS from my first posts was rather gay sounding. What I should of said was 'I'm here to learn as much as I can from you guys'.
In deferance to those Canadians who have served with us, DEPs please take charge of this lad. He has not been to basic training.

Shut the fuck up.HiredGoon10 wrote:Ranger Jim, I appreciate your advice and advice from other members sent to me through PM's. I read the FAQ's and hopefully I'll be able to save my ass before I get myself in deeper. I'm new to this forum (and forums in general) so thanks for putting up with my ignorance this long.
