Every Tuesday, when the staff meeting ends, I stand at attention and say "Rangers Lead the Way, Sir."

The DPW has lately started saying "Sapper Light!"

Fucker hasn't even been to the course. What the fuck is THAT all about?

Now you got dudes (and chicks) going through for a shitty little piece of cloth when before they were fucking scared of the place. Sorry but 28 days doesn't warrant a fucking tab. Sorry about the rant but I am sick of sapper this and sapper that. I had an intimate view of the politics behind the approval of the tab being that I worked in patrolling right around the time the tab was getting approved. You can't imagine the gayness. Thank god I left that world. Combat engineer battalions are ipso facto extinct. Oh, by the way welcome sapper mike!!

And don't get me started on that CAB either. I earned my EIB in '78 in 4/9 Inf, and am proud of that. I don't understand having to give everyone a beret and a badge. WTF? Combat patch is enough. [b/]

And thank you, everyone, for the welcome.

I can't agree with any of that anymore. Yes, the Army has gone to, what I refer to as..."The Army of One"....which also translates into "Everyone in the Army Gets one Special Thing". It is just how it is. Don't really understand it too much, but as we all know...the Army is changing. In the last couple years, new awards have been created (thought Global War on Terrism Expeditionary Medal was enough), the CAB and Sapper Tab. We now have a new "high speed" uniform (which I actually like a lot of it) and now they are coming up with trying to change the Class-A's (which I never wear). Don't really know where the Army's priorities are during a time of war, but I'm not a General either. Just how it is. Those that have done something usually don't try to show it and those that have need something to say they did something. So....oh well...welcome to the new Army..no biggie.

I personally like our philosophy in Group....the only thing we wear is what you can put on your sleeves. Nobody wears badges (accept for a few) and when I was in Iraq...the only thing we wore was name tapes, flag and rank. It actually made things run A LOT smoother, because folks were getting judged on their performance and not the first impression of what was on their chest. I will continue to wear only what fits on my sleeves, in garrison...., because that is really all that is required. Even the "Combat Patch" has changed faces, because I've met folks who were given one for being in Qatar.....haven't heard of any mortars hitting there.

So, in short...just have to take it with a grain of salt, so to speak. I learned to deal with all that when the Black Beret I earned was handed out later to Privates....So...I say....Whatever rocks their boat. :D
