Airborne Class 30-06
Airborne Class 30-06
I graduated Airborne school on Friday the 23rd. I was in D company second platoon, second stick. It was a lot of fun and I can't believe that I finally have earned my wings.
I was surprised by how little they smoke you and the easiness of the course. Although I did find myself tiered and ready to go to bed at the end of the day due to a combination of the unforgiving Georgia heat and just doing the training.
Info for future Airborne students.
-DON'T use tobacco products during the training day. We had one private that was removed the first day of training because he had a wad of dip in his mouth during a class.
-As soon as it hits heat cat 5 during the summer the 5 mile run is lowered to a 3.2. It’s nothing to be worried about if you’re in shape.
-Remember to sound off during the runs. They pull people who don't, so just yell something.
-Be ready to do 42 extremely slow pushups. They won't count them if their fast and if your form sucks. There is no such thing as the 41 club, those people just suck at slow push-ups.
I can't wait to jump again and I would like to thank the Rangers and contributing members to this site who provided information, which increased my understanding prior to going to the Airborne school.
AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!!!

dbap, I'm headed down that route in about 12 weeks when I'm done with my combat medic training. There's a lot of rumors going around that the training's been dumbed down to jumping only and all road marches have been removed. Just wondering if you can elaborate on how the training is for those of us over here at Ft. Sam eager to jump out of perfectly good airplanes!

I went to the basic jump course in 1965 and to refresher in 1971. No road marches in either. No weapons were issued when I was there, nor did we have any TA-50 except for suspenders, pistol belt, canteen W/cover and poncho.

Jeez you guy's have short memories.
When I went through(back when it was hard), we humped our asses of everyday in jump week!
0dark30, a grueling 3 mph pace, my steel parachutist helmet, and all the weight of a 1qt canteen! We use to have to roadmarch all the way down to the Airfield, it was a smoker, I tell ya' it was something else.
It was so bad, I didn't think I was going to make it most of the time and almost quit just for that reason!

Ranger Silverback, is all that information current and up to date? I had heard from my Battery Commander in BASIC that a large portion of the training in Airborne has been changed recently.Silverback wrote:Road marches in Airborne School? Maybe I got the road marches mixed up with Air Assault? http://www.airbornejoe.com searching through his diary of Airborne he mentioned road marches.
Thanks for the information, that's helpful on a huge scale.
dbap any information you want to put out to us over here at Ft. Sam Houston on the training is still appreciated, as well as any Rangers. :D

DirtyBlackSocks, don't worry about the school. It is a really enjoyable course to say the least. I went to delta company which rumor has it is the hardest and it was an easy course. The things that people were removed from were:
1) PT test, we lost just over 40 on this and it was primarily due to poor push-ups and the inability of some females to do the flexed arm hang for ten seconds. Every night do 42 slow controlled perfect push-ups and you will be fine.
2) Inability to fallow orders. When they say don’t use tobacco products during the day, then don't. When they tell you to only have your ID card and chap stick in your left breast pocket and your ID tags looped around your belt loop and tucked in your back pocket, then do it. They want you to succeed and jump safely. Just fallow instructions.
3) Going insane on the weekend. I know your fresh from basic/AIT/OSUT and you have well over 5 grand in discretionary income that you can just blow away. Look out for your battle buddy and as the CO told us, read a book and become smarter.
4) Don't be like the PJ's and paint green feet on the patches building and then tie your green feet flag from the 250ft tower.
PM me if you have any more questions.

yeah dude, are you really sure? Cause his BASIC CDR, at Ft.
