My Path to the Tab (An Introduction)
I would first like to say hello to all members of this forum, and give a very special thanks to the Rangers and various Special Forces soldiers that served/are serving this country. Thank you so much.
My name is Rick, and I'm 19 years old and currently residing in New Jersey. I have a High School Diploma with a semester of college and have completed MEPS a few weeks ago. I can proudly say I was fortunate enough to have 11x Option 40 in my contract. I will be shipping out to Basic 9JAN2007, and will be preparing myself physically and mentally for the eventual challange of Ranger School.
In the honest hope I don't bore many of you to death, I'd like to explain my motivation for choosing the path to becoming a Ranger in the U.S. Army. Ever since I was 5 years old, I've wanted to "jump out of planes and kill the bad guys". Every day since then I have tried to learn as many facts and nomenclature of the U.S. Military as humanly possible and to learn it from those who served. My grandfather and great-uncles all served in WWII, mostly in the Air Corps, and I was always begging for stories. I've always respected the military, and have held a special place in my heart for WWII vets, especially those who volunteered for the elite outfits. When I turned 13 years old, I began collecting WWII militaria, and began to take part in the hobby of WWII Re-enacting. I am currently with an excellent unit that portrays 3rd Platoon E Co. 506 PIR 101st AB, whose membership comprises of mostly current military (National Guard to be exact), a few who have served in the 101st and 75th Ranger Regiment. I have developed an extremely close bond with veterans of the 101st Airborne, many who made the jump into Normandy. The discussions I have had with these fantastic men further drove my desire to become an elite Airborne warrior, and hell, I figured if I were to jump out of planes and kill people, I want to be apart of a hardcore unit that can pride themselves on being "the best": I wanted to be an Airborne Ranger. I figure if I want someone watching MY back in any situation I take part in, I want him to be the most elite and guided individual the Army has to offer. And I want him to expect the same from me.
I will not quit. I know that Ranger school will be hell, and I know the graduation rate is VERY low, but I will never fail myself. I WILL, and I repeat, I WILL become a U.S. Army Ranger. Its either the tab or on a slab for me, and I look foward to using the information on this forum, as well as the questions I ask to my benefit.
I am very blessed to have found this community, for in the past few hours of in-depth thread reading I have learned MANY things I did not know before. I'll admit, I'm not a know it all, and any ribbing or smoking out I receive from those who are already Rangers on this forum will not insult me...in the Army, shit that needs to be said has no room for PC Bullshit, and must be done quick and truthfully. I respect that you need to do so.
If you were able to read through my entire mini-auto-biography, thank you very much for your time. If you didn't read all of it...I don't blame you, and thank you anyway. :D
God bless every one here who has served this country, and I look foward to one day serving along with you...as a U.S. Army Ranger.
