Why I want to be an Infantry Officer
The answer to this question is not a simple phrase or one dimentional desire. It is more of an attitude, a personality type, just something that is a part of who I am. It is something that has been with me for years, it is my motivation, my goal in life.
I want to be in the Army because of the people, because of the mission.
Growing up I never fit in well with most of my peers. I could never trust any of them, and never developed any close friendships because of that. They had no concept of loyalty, no drive to go anywhere. They defined success by material things. They cheated, lied, stole, and had no respect for authority. I bounced from one group of friends to the next, never fitting in.
I have always been dedicated towards pushing my mental and physical limits, whether it be training for a triathlon or my next track meet. I define success by making a new friendship, helping a teammate improve, or finding personal satisfaction at the little things in life. I want friends who are trusting and who you can rely on, who understand the true meaning of the word loyalty. I want to live my life with a purpose - to do the best I can. I want to help others, to do something with my life that actually matters, and be around people with that same drive.
I want to be an officer because I want to lead soldiers into battle.
I believe that I am capable of handling any enlisted job the Army has to offer. I could be anything from a 88M to an 18B as an enlisted soldier, and feel that I would be able to do each of those jobs well. However, I have always had a knack for being the leader in a group. I am always the one that organizes efforts, who gives everyone a job and makes sure they all get done. I always look out for others before myself. Throughout my 19 years I have always felt a sincere desire to help others. As a high school kid I found more satisfaction in being the role model and squaring away my new teammates than in my own successes. I have no problem using my free time to help others. I believe that as an officer, I will be able to do more for the Army then as an enlisted soldier.
I want to be an infantry officer because I want a job that requires guts.
I am an outdoors person. I love the woods, love to spend my time outside. I am an athlete, and enjoy training my body and mind into peak physical condition. I crave challenges, always looking to run faster, ruck further, and always be the first one to finish.
I hate those that are weak and require creature comforts in order to be happy. I hate it when people whine when they have to take the stairs because the elevator is broken.
I want to get the hell away from them, to be surrounded with people that remain optimistic in the face of hardship, who can laugh when things suck. I love people that know how to drive on, for who the phrase "never shal I fail my comrades" is a way of life. You don't find people like that in any easy job. It takes people of immense character and strength to succeed in such a demanding job. I am not entirely sure why, but with a ruck on my back, boots on my feet, rain in my face, with my buddies beside me, I feel more at home than in my dorm or with my girlfriend.
"They're the backbone of this country, grandma, the best I've ever seen, the heart and soul. I've found it finally, way down here in the mud. Maybe from down here I can start up again and be something I can be proud of, without having to fake it, maybe ... I can see something I don't yet see, learn something I don't yet know."

Alright, here's my re-intro:
I originally found this site months ago, and I found some of the info on RS to be very beneficial once I got there. I love the hunt club trophy room, and I'm hoping to soak up some knowledge from the shit-ton of experience that's on the site. As far as military experience goes, I got nothin...IOBC, Mech Leaders, and RS, that's it.
