13F and Rangers

Post by Mika »

Hi my name is Chris im a reservist, 18 years old, and E-2 i got sort of a long story.

Last year i joined the Army Reserve as a split-op, went through basic, went back to school. at first when i was about 14 i was deciding which branch i should join, what school to go to, so i read the book black hawk down, and get an idea of what i want to do. still unsure of which office to walk into, my dad introduces me to his co-worker, who was a ranger and marine. he wants me to get into the business world, so he thinks this guy being crazy would scare me. he told me how he killed "motherfuckers", all sorts of crazy stories which just made my dad's plan backfire.

after basic, i read no excuse leadership, did a bunch of research, and learned much about myself on how i reacted in basic. i stuck with my original plan, suprising to my recruiters, went to MEPS. i acted very polite, which luckily enough got me an airborne contract with a 13F MOS. all i wanted was 11b-infantry-and ranger if a slot was open. but i found out some cool stuff about 13f, but im still worried that it wont prepare me for RIP, it sounds like a microsoft AIT. if by the grace of God i make Ranger, will my job as a ranger be different from a guy thats infantry? obviously i just want to get my chance to get in the shit ASAP.

also, ive heard this rumor from many, so i believe its true. after Airborne, RI's recruit people to go to ranger school. is it possible to get into RIP straight out of airborne?(im worried ill get deployed, which might burn me out before i get to RIP). so its 3 questions-will 13F help me get ready, what do i do in AIT, will my MOS make my job as a ranger different from infantry, and can i get into RIP before my first assignment(right after BAT).

thanks to everyone who bothered to read this novel of a post, and especially to whoever can help me get the black and gold.

In the words of Yoda...Very confused you are

RI's and Ranger school is totally different from RIP. Research the two and it will make more sense. RI's do not recruit anyone out of Airborne to go to Ranger school. The Regiment will sometimes recruit out of Airborne to attend RIP. Again, you are combinig several terms into one thing, learn more.

Also, I would be a little suspicious of a Marine/Ranger who killed all kinds of people, just my humble opinion.

Welcome to the site, research the two items I mentioned.

well, my little life story in thebeginning took place when i was a lot younger, which started my goal of becomming a ranger. i wouldnt be on this site in the first place if i didnt know what i wanted. i can sit there and give a hundred good reasons why id rather be a ranger than a marine grunt.

sorry, my mistake for not telling my own story right. basically im trying to find out of i have to go out and do some roadmarches on weekends in AIT, go through some obstacle courses while im at Sill, so i can be at the same level as the guy who came out of benning. i m willing to do all that instead of enjoying free time bullshitting. but, like i said a few times before, im trying to find out what AIT will be like, in hopes ill have some chance of developing mental toughness in any degree.

From my time as a 13F (at the time it was 13E) in Bat, the following advice/observations:

1) It's a challenging and rewarding job, or a t least it was to me.
2) We got to do everything and go everywhere the grunts did, only we had more gear. :)
3) The only thing that will prepare you for RIP/Ranger School is YOU. Read what these younger guys have to say. Then apply it to YOU.

Make your own luck.

Just concentrate on actually becoming a Fister. All this talk of RIP, do you have BAC in your contract, or do you know where you're going? It's probably going to be Leg-O-Land.

I'm going to welcome you, but you really need to do as the other Rangers here have told you. Seek and you shall find.

thanks guys for your help, i should've done some more research around here, i just found this place a little more than a week ago, but its great to gets some feedback from actual Rangers. I dont mind being criticised at or corrected, if that's what it takes to better prepare myself.

but for preparation, I know for a fact that there are some things i have to study prior to ranger school, not just getting into shape. im almost finished memorizing the creed, standing orders, but last time i took off for military training i was only focused on getting into shape, i thought thats all there was to it, but i had no clue it would be a learning experience, then the ROTC kids already knew what to do. ill take your advice and look up the questions already asked a million times, and again thanks for your help.

Do you have any kind of orders yet? I'm asking because if not, concentrate on passing AIT and trying to get out of Leg-O-Land and into Benning for BAC.
