Introduction and Army veteran

Post by Crash »

My name is Renee. I was posted at Ft. Lewis, WA, in 76 to 78, with the 497th Transportation Company. My unit provided some transportation support to the Rangers back in my day. When I had rations detail (shopping with the mess sgts) I always hoped I would get one of the Ranger mess halls at lunch time, because they had the best food on post. Although, I must say, I have never gotten used to fried bologna. We also did a trip to the Mountain training camp at Huckleberry Creek. Loved repelling.

I am posting to this website as a veteran. I am also a svcs rep for the VA. I AM NOT POSTING TO THIS WEBSITE IN AN OFFICIAL CAPACITY AS A VA EMPLOYEE. I am just another veteran who really dislikes all the disinformation that's floating around about various VA benefits.

Here are my feelings on helping people with questions about VA benefits.

As veterans, there are benefits you need to know about, and how to access them. You need to know the pluses and minuses of the benefits. You cannot rely on your friends to know all the details of these benefits unless they are employed by the VA or a National Service Officer of one of the state or national veteran's service organizations. And as humans, even we (VA) or the service organizations make mistakes. Unlike veterans in the past, you do have a greater information tool with the internet. Believe it or not you can access VA manuals and regulations through the internet. Only problem is you'll probably need to be mainlining espresso via IV. Have problems with insomnia, sign in and go to sleep. Instant cure.

If you want to see the criteria for rating mental disorders (bunch are rated under the same list schizophrenia though general anxiety disorders) see what it takes to be 100 percent, and would you want to be there.

I love my job and I love helping other people. If I seem reluctant to give details about certain VA actions, please be assured it's not that I don't want to help. This is a public forum and I'd rather not lose my job by telling what part of the story I've heard, but can't confirm, or what someone else doesn't want known. However, if I'm reluctant to tell you why something is happening, I will not be reluctant to tell you what you can and/or should do to help yourself or a loved one(s).

In summation: (no, I'm not a laywer) I am hoping someday I might make contact with some people I knew in the service, and if I'm able to help others along the way, well, that's even better.

I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express one night...

Oh, fuck it. PM me your information and we'll decide in what capacity you can do anything. DO NOT BE PLAYING Super VA Guru while you're waiting.

Well, there's the help from the VA... The link takes you to a page that's an index with no way to get to the information. And I'm sure it takes lawyers to decipher it and no two lawyers will interpret it the same way.

I wonder... are there any former Special Ops types, who know how to speak straight and cut through the shit, working at the VA?

I don't think so...

Crash, besides refraining from giving VA advice across the board for the time being, you also need to get an avatar.
