MOS Question

Post by EuroBrat »

Hey all,

I recently visited a recruiter to start my enlistment. He was very straight-forward with everything and everything that he said matched with just about everything that I've done research about. He said that I would be able to obtain an Option 40 contract (if I can prove myself worthy after taking the ASVAB and physical tests) however when I asked about obtaining an MOS he told me that I would go in as an 11X and be assigned an MOS once I arrive at the regiment (basically whatever they need...infantrywise). I was under the impression that I would be assigned my MOS at AIT after Basic Training, but this was never mentioned. With a Ranger Contract (Option 40) I'm assuming that I'll still go to AIT to obtain an MOS...is this true? If so, is there anything that I can do to influence what MOS I would like (11Bravo)? Thanks for any and all help.

Your choices under 11X are 11B or 11C. They will most likely make you an 11B unless you do real well at the Battery II test (given in Basic). You will know prior to basic Grad. You will go to RIP either way (11B or 11C). I would jump at the oppurtunity, but remember your recruiter cannot guarantee it only the counseler at MEPS can (in writing). The MEPS Counseler might try to persuade you into something else i.e. another MOS. It's up to you to stand your ground. Hope this helps.

I just noticed your probably a service dependant and might be enlisting in Germany, recruiters have strange powers there and most of them act as a recruiter/counseler as well. If so, He'll be able to square you away and back up what he saying.

Ranger wellfed,

Thank you for your help. Yes I am a dependant living in Germany and the recruiter that I have contacted is both the recruiter and counseler. I am conducting everything through him.

Don't be afraid to go soft skill either.
The Regiment and the Army need good medics and commo guys.
And a good MI analyst can be responsible for killing more bad guys than platoons of door kickers.
Going to RIP in a soft skill shortage MOS will not make your passage one whit easier, and will probably be harder, but it might make getting that Opt40 easier, so you might have a better shot at getting a shot.
Stay the heck away from a support company slot tho'

Ranger K.Ingraham,

Thank you for your advice, however I've already been slotted for an 11X Option 40 Contract. I'm currently working on filling out all the paperwork and I'll be signing the final papers within the next week or two. Thank you both for the help you have provided.

If you're talking about a point of sale reservation, you only have 7 days to claim it.

Basically, you're confused or you're fucking lying.

SFC hit_it,

I may be confused...as my recruiter has notified me that I should have the contract. I will ask him about it the next time I talk with him. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
