signed my DEP contract

Post by fattuesdays »

Hello everyone, well, I originally wanted an 18x contract, but when I got to MEPS the counselor pointed out that a requirement for 18x is 20/20 vision (not correctable to 20/20, but needs to be 20/20)... I believed him since that was actually written on the 18x job sheet under Remarks (I think is what the paragraph is called (it said "REQ 20/20" instead of "CORR 20/20"))... we sent in a request for an exception but were told that in fact I am disqualified for 18x, but once enlisted I am still qualified for Special Forces since I am correctable to 20/20... I was offered a 11x/ABN/Option 40/Option70 contract and I took it. The only catch is that the contract stipulates I ship out 01/31/2006, but I will still be in school. My recruiter told me they can push my shipping date back to after my graduation, and worst case scenerio is I just don't ship on 01/31/2006 and go through the whole process again. After thinking about it for some time, even though SF is still my ultimate goal, I am very excited to also get a shot at becoming a Ranger.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but any thoughts or comments would be greatly appriciated. Thank you

While I recognize that at this moment, you are on a personal high, let me give you a little realism:

a. Once you are in a unit, you may apply for Ranger School. There are a large number of us who are tabbed -- Hell, just go look at the class pictures if you are unconvinced.

b. You will be in OSUT training in January, That should put you into Airborne in Late Feb -- early March, now the weather at Benning is starting to improve.

c. Life is good!!! Now get off your dead ass and run, run, and run some more. I know Christmas is just around the corner; but so is your shipping date.

d. And once you start, Never quit!!!

Why do you have two fucking intro threads? Are you that important??? Are you special, are you a wonderboi??? Or are you just trying to irritate me???

I apologize, VAK. The first intro was my civilian introduction and this was my DEP introduction... I didn't realize that I shouldn't have started a new thread

You know what you must do......

Feet on chair, face the ground and extend your arms, then bend 'em 90 degrees and repeat the process about 100 times

Alright!! See what you have to look forward too!! It's great isn't it?!! Stepping on your dick every day without knowing which way to turn, getting smoked and yelled at every waking moment like you're a twelve yr. old that pissed on the couch!!

This is the beginning of a new life young man, don't waste it.
Get your ass out and run til you puke, when your not running, zip it and study, study, study here. Your country's calling you, don't let her down.
Good luck to you.

Ditto to what everyone has told you. Read & heed.

Now do your running in 40 deg. or colder weather, preferably rain, with no raingear. Make yourself cold, wet, and miserable for days on end. For a break between runs, keep doing pushups, esp. in the mud and rain.

Builds character.
