Becoming an Army Ranger
Hi everyone, my name is Dan, and i want to be an Army Ranger. Im 16 and still in highschool and to be honest, i dont know shit about the military. i do know some about WW2 history, but i cant understand any of that technical bullshit about forms and documents...
Ive written a couple of ex Rangers like Eric Haney and he told me to earn a degree and go into the army after that. I just want to know what is the best way to become one of Americas best. My dad tells me to go into an ROTC program .. but if i became an officer and then did my best to earn the title of Army Ranger, i am afraid that i would not be able to lead men so a big part of me wants to go in as an enlisted man so i wont have to make choices that could get good people killed. also, if i complete Ranger School, i know i can wear the Tab, but would i actually be IN the 75th Rgt, or would they just tell me i did it and then send me back to my old unit ?
As of right now, i dont give a shit if i have a low rank, just as long as im a Ranger, and im active in the feild, and not as a paper pusher. Since im only 16 and i dont know shit, if you feel the need to scold me on this view, please do, but i cant help it, its just what i want. I want to be assigned to a battalion in the 75th ranger Rgt and i want to know what is the best way to do it.
As for right now, i run every day, and i lift, and when i run i listen to Army Ranger running cadences :) i like to shoot and i own an M1 Garand [kinda .. i paid for it, but i cant own it yet] and i just wanted some advice from people who are actually out there doing it right now ..
Thank you for your time and advice even if you think im a worthless shit

I'm honestly not in the mood. Sorry.
Maybe tomorrow I'll feel better.

Listen to Eric Haney. Go to College, then join. Thats what im doing.
As for you not thinking you can lead men into battle because you think youll get them killed; you're absolutely correct.
You're only 16, by the time it comes for you to enlist I'm sure your attitude about leading will be different. It better be or else you probably wont make it as a Ranger.
Good Luck
Keep up the PT

I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger - I was a Ranger because of the way I am.

Ive been told that if you do ROTC you dont have to become an officer.
You may want to look into some more but dont worry about it until youre a Junior and are looking at colleges. Dont let your eagerness to join the Army be the reason you dont get what you want out of it. (example: Ranger) I wanted to go right in after i graduate but my brother inlaw who is a Ranger in the 2nd battalion and my brother who was in the 160th both tell me to go to college first, even if its just 2 years for an associates degree.
