Wow, been working on those reloads for my .308 to make a good varmint round.......Worked awesome!!!!
I used the following:
Primer: Federal No. 210
Brass: Winchester
Bullet: Hornady V-Max 110 grains
Charge: 40 grains
Powder: IMR 3031
Rifle: Remington 788 .308 Win
Optics: Redfield 4x Scope
I was blasting prairie dogs all day today. Was accurate as hell. Using really simple optics to enhance the challenge, which was definitely the case. Paced one kill and was at 200 meters, nailing him in the chest and blowing his back end out. He was only a pup, so not as big as his parents. I'm starting to like the V-Max. Better performance for varmint hunting than the HP Sierra 110 grain. Hit another one today that flat out blew him in half and threw parts in a 4 foot radius. Little bastards were all over the place and went through a lot of rounds in one town. Couldn't load fast enough.
For those of you that think a prairie dog at 200 meters is easy, give it a try. They aren't exactly a big target and don't stand still. Especially, when they hang out with only their head up above the hole. :D
Awesome SHIT!!!
