I'm ready to talk to a recruiter.

Post by Gunrunner »

Hello everyone,

Please forgive my topic title for being vague, but I have come to the decision that I want to join the Army and more importantly, be a RANGER.
Before I continue, I should address the fact that I am 16 years old, and a Junior in High School. I cannot say exactally what has influenced my decision, other then the fact that I am extremely patriotic, and would love nothing more then to serve my country. I realize, that I am young, and to many of you I am probably too young to make this decision. But I have thought it through, have full support of my parents, and also have good enough grades for college, but I would rather serve first.

All that aside, I would like to discuss the recruiting process, and where I should go from here. Everyone is now looking at colleges, so I figured I'd give my future a start, and talk to a recruiter. I realize that no recruiter will give me any RANGER contract before I finish High school, so I was wondering what I should talk about. Maybe doing my basic training this summer, and after senior year go through the Ranger process. If you guys feel I'm too young to make this decision, please don't hesitate in saying so. But understand that if I accomplish nothing else in my lifetime, all I want to be is a RANGER. So if anyone can help me through the steps of recruitment ( I've read the forum sticky's) I would be very appreciative.

Thank you.

Oh yeah, please excuse my forum name. It's childish, I know.

If you are 16 and a JUNIOR, you are not ready to talk to a recruiter NOR are you ready to get a Ranger contract.

Wait until you are 17 and a senior and do NOT join the Army Reserve.

Read and learn.

Before you do anything else, "Graduate" from Highschool. Not just because of the military, do it for you and your future. A Highshool Diploma might not "look" like much to you right now, but it will "mean" a whole lot more in the future.

A G.E.D. doesn't mean as much as finishing something you start. Keep that in mind.
"It's not for us to reason why, it's just for us to Do or Die!"

"S.A.F.R.A.!"

Thank you for the advice, it really helps. I did figure that it would be a little too early, but amidst everyone looking at colleges, I thought I should talk to a recruiter. At least I have something to look foreward too, and something to avidly prepare for.

So, thanks.

Just to let everyone know, I don't plan on dropping out of High School or getting a GED. I realize that a diploma is one of the most important things you can have. Not just for millitary, but for the future.

You may get your Ranger contract during the summer prior to your Senior year, you just have to graduate to keep it.

If you make the reservation as far out as allowed (365 days) the Army will have better availability on your kind of contract.

Remember that.

Thanks so much for the advice. It's very difficult to get good advice when I only have the support of my family, who have no millitary experience. (except my grandfather, who was a Ranger after Korea.) You'd probably be surprised to see how little support me or anyone else gets from teachers or peers who just say I'm throwing my life away. But hey, I let them think what they want, I can't think of anything else I'd rather be.

That's because competative high schools (yes high schools) don't get padded stats when someone joins the military. Only when someone goes to college so of course they're not going to nurture your desire to serve your country.
