Therefore I am going to have to find something that is strictly long-distance for the first 6 months at least. After that I am fine to go and attend on the nightschedule etc.

I don't remember who wrote to check out Columbia College, but they actually do have a fantastic program. While I didn't get my BA through them, I did go through their program for several of my courses. While their main Campus is in Columbia Missouri, they have outreach centers literally everywhere and the campus little space they have set up here is fantastic. (They were actually one of the pioneers of the On-Line schools). I just finished my Masters last year in Political Science and I gotta tell you Brother, I would have been devastated financially had I not had my degree and something to fall back on when I became ill. When we are going balls to the wall it doesn't seem like anything can hold us back however when an injury or illness does strike, it is a fantastic thing to have something in your backpocket to fall back on. As Abell said, "Those who have it wouldn't trade it for anything" and certainly I wouldn't give mine up!! I have every once of faith in your ability to complete this task and if you have any down time while you're over there, this is a fantastic idea. Let me know if I can do anything at all to help you with this task.

As others have said, having, or even pursuing a degree depends on what you want to do with it. I would say that it is not worth it to get a degree and not use it. Work in the field of your degree, or the other way around. It may or may not open doors for you. What it probably will do is allow you to advance to a higher position in your field. In my field, only people who have a degree and work in that same field and have supervisory experience are allowed to hold upper management positions. I'm not currently in one, but do meet the requirements. That is how a degree has helped me.

I have heard people say that all these online programs cheapen the degree. This almost always comes from those who have attended a University. I don't think it matters unless you live in a University town where people you may work for/with have a University degree. Fuck them. It's just another certification.

I asked my wife about these schools and classes. She said the online classes were some of the hardest, most time consuming classes she had. She was 3.9 gpa student got her B.S. and now is a barber . She makes twice the amount of money as she would have in her degree field (Human Services).

Social Work is a bitch ain't it... Just like that C.J. degree. Well, I needed it to get promoted up within the department, but really it was pretty sad. Had I the patience to do it over again, I would go for an economics degree with a political science minor then get my masters in 'TAKING OVER THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD'. 1. I gave you informative shit about school already and the information was becoming redundant in the thread, something my mind can simply not handle when I am on my med's and thinking of something else.

Excelsior is operated by the State of New York. First rate operation and they have programs that enable you to get credit for your military education as well as military experience. I got my AA from them in 1973 -- at the time, I think it cost me around $50 - $75.

I got my BA from AMU, American Military University. I was able to do it all online, and VA paid for everything.

My wife started at the University of Texas at Dallas and finished at U of Phoenix. It was difficult and a large part of your grade is dependant on learning teams... I took one class there, and my learning team started with 5 and ended with myself and a Marine...in Baghdad...so that wasn't great.

I am going to another online school called Columbia Southern University. It's pretty good and is endorsed by the VA. Military.com has a ton of information on good online schools that are endorsed by the VA.

Also, a lot of very good, well known public and private schools are offering online courses these days. Just have to make sure the VA supporst their class/semester structure and they are accredited by the VA.
