Security Clearance II

Post by jlells01 »

This has been on my mind and bothering me for awhile, so short and sweet:

When I was 19, at my first job after moving up here to the city for school, I stole some stuff from the store (big national chain).

Was caught, denied it of course. No charges filed or anything like that, just something I'm sure will look horrific on my past employment record.

Times have changed in the years since that incident (three)...with a more level head, I most certainly realize now how incredibly stupid I was being...I was raised a whole lot better than that!

For you Rangers and Veterans, what's your view on how this will determine proper security clearance eligibility?

Thank you.

Be absolutely honest in the questionaire or you will get busted. You will be asked if you were ever let go from a job for misconduct or something to that effect. Do not bullshit, they will find out.

Thank you Ranger Puck & Towedjmpr.

Full disclosure is of the utmost importance, and I most certainly will try to make sure everything is on paper.

Excluding this incident, I'm not concerned about a thing (clean record and past)...I just got a bad attack of the youthful stupids, and I'm sure having "stealing" and/or "theft" on my employment record will stick out like a sore thumb and look just plain awful.

Pardon all the questions, but when does the security clearance process actually take place?

You are "checked out" while in basic. The MEPS only file it, they have nothing to do with it from that point on.

Don't worry about it. You have more important things to prep for.

Read and push.

It's just a bad thought to consider that everything I would have worked for could be taken away from me during basic because of something stupid I did years ago...with reassignment to some non-security clearance MOS to soon follow!

Put it this way. I was a damn houdlum at your age. I was on probation for things you don't want to know about. Kids do stupid shit. It is expected. Hiding it is the mistake.

I had the a Top Secret clearance and beyond. Forget about it. If you worry about it you will cause problems. Get over it and carry on.

Now, drop it or you will be assaulted.

Good deal...I expected they would demand recruits with exemplary backgrounds for candidacy to Ranger and/or SF training.

Ranger Bugsy,

I mean absolutely nothing but respect to Ranger Abell9.

I feel it is term of respect beyond the standard name. But if I am ordered so, I will not use it further.

A good NCO knows when to shut the hell up.

Just like everyone else said, be totally honest. Have you talked to a recruiter yet? He will square you away and make sure you have disclosed all past info. Everyone here is just telling you what we know from past experience. To get a more accurate answer and instructions, you need to speak to your recruiter. If you don't want to do that yet, at least ask SFC Hit_It. He will square you away.
