Tan beret outside Regiment/Ranger School?

Post by Rich275 »

Gents,
I was watching President Bush's speach at Ft. Bragg, last night. Among the sea of Airborne and SF berets, was a lone guy wearing tan.
The flash was not from either Regiment/Bn's or Ranger School and I could not see his shoulder patches.
Who gets to war a tan beret outside the Regiment or RS?
Thanks,
Rich

I saw the same thing, but I think there were two of them. I know one had a Combat Scroll, saw it plain as day, but I didn't see that ones Flash.

It was an optical illusion. They didn't really exist.

My thoughts exactly! The Flash is actually what I had a question about, not that there was a Tan Baret there. There could be 100 reasons for that!

There are slots at USASOC that are allowed to wear the tan.

I guess that would explain the red Flash!

The most recent Best Ranger Team from USASOC had that very same beret and flash! My comment was meant to be slightly sarcastic.

USASOC has decided the Batboys still assigned throughout USASOC command may continue to wear the Tan Beret.

They must be verified and 75th Ranger Regiment is the sole verifier.

I assume you get a memorandum stating your G2G.

Sort of like MOJO access.

As a matter of fact I know exactly who both of them are. One was me (with the combat scroll), the other was the USASOC HHC 1SG - Brian R*** (former 2/75). The flash is the USASOC flash, solid black with a red border.

THere are 10 folks up here at the puzzle palace that wear the Tan Beret. All 10 of us have had service in the Regiment. Three in the Ranger Cell, three in the G8 shop, the HHC 1SG, the USASOC Chaplains assistant, a former 2/75er in the G3 shop, and the USASOC CSM (whom I am sure you all know). Soon there will be another, the USASOC CG who has served a few times in the Regiment.

The guiding document used is AR670-1 which authorizes its wear within USASOC. Believe me, it is fairly controlled and for the most part verified informally among those who wear it.
