Be physically and (most of all) mentally up for the challenge. I didn't have a clue about what to expect, but I knew I wasn't going to quit. That's the secret right there....don't quit.
I guess if you really think you need more than intestinal fortitude, memorize the Ranger Creed, be proficient at LandNav (land navigation: map reading, compass, pace counting, etc.), learn how to shoot, and be a strong swimmer. If you have a lot of time to study the Ranger Handbook, that will help, assuming you make it. Good luck, Grasshopper.

If I were to say all I needed was intestinal fortitude, I would be arrogant. I just ordered the ranger handbook, I have swam since I was 2 (parents started me out early) I shot my first gun around age five, and have been shooting shit ever since. I will be going down to my local map store here in Milwaukee this week. I know how to use a compass. Now all I need to do is take it one day and a time, and take what I get dealt and like you said NEVER QUIT!

Thank You EP :D

Hey Hopps... it sounds to me as if your Recruiter, or maybe you, doesn't care. Ask him how to get promated to E-2 or E-3 before you go. Many easy to learn skills that you will be taught in basic you can learn before you go, and earn yourself a promotion. Be sure to ask him about it. It doesn't take very long to do. My recruiter briefed me on all the skills I would need to know and helped me get my E-2 before I went... Gives you some extra cash too..and everyone likes money.

One small item. The title header should read "new enlistee" not "new enlisty". There is no such word as enlisty.

Ranger Luna, your say next.
