Napolean's light infantrymen were used in two ways. the first act in concert with their parent battalion for which they scout on the march and cover during a battle. These skirmishers were used to repulse the first posts of the enemy, and to probe his exact position. That was not their main objective. Their main goal was to carry disorder to the hostile line. They destroy the enemy. The enemy is now forced to move his fucked up troops away and to withdraw their fucking skirmishers. The whole idea was to throw back the enemy skirmishers onto his attacking troops and to carry disorder to its columns.

Hmmmm maybe its me, but I could have swore there was more to this assignment whether the answer was correct or not.

My suggestion is that you re-read your assignment and then give a detailed response to each question that you were directed to complete.

You should actually feel proud, its been sometime since we've assigned anyone a task such as this. Now lets see what you're made of on a mental level.

That's how the skirmishers of the two parties, who want to protect their own line and shit on that of the enemy, together the neutralize each other and decide nothing at all. It's the whole shock of the massed troops on which the combat depends on, and as soon as they join, the skirmishers then become useless, fucked up but necessary that they join the line. The tirailleurs de marche et de combat are, subordinate to the action of the battalions, for which they prepare the attack, then scout and which between they rally. Their action alone can never result in a decision.

The tiralleurs en grande band, however, form a main body. their object is to storm or defend a position, or to turn the flank of the enemy.[/i]
