You have been given great advice by many. The man shown here has much in the way of experience and it behooves you to best heed Rgr Puck's advice.

Rangers, thanks for all the great sound advice it is greatly appreciated. IN regards to the name i chose, your absolutely right, I havent even begun to fathom the blood guts and tears Rangers and veterans past present and future have shed for me to have this opportunity to come on here and call myself BloodGutsTears. Although I do hope to have the strength to live up to such glory when my time comes, so if you'd prefer i changed my name, just let me know and its done.

In regards to my decision of not completing my last year of college right now. I never looked at it as quitting but more of a postponement. I look around my college campus sometimes and see all these guys and girls having a good time, laughing, joking and not even a thought of what a service member is currently going thru enters their minds. Every so many years our nation goes to war and the call is placed to all Americans to make a decision. The decision to continue on with their own lives and let somebody else worry about joining, or stepping up to the plate when your country needs you and doing what needs to be done. So i just didnt want you all to think i was a quitter because im not a dumb ass to come this far and not decide to finish my degree. But at the same time, I will take your advice and possibly finish college first then enlist. But ultimately the decision i make has to be one my heart can rest surely upon to be the right decision. I cannot allow myself to continue college knowing soldiers need people stepping to the plate. Again thanks for all the great advice, i hope to continue reading and learning much more and not a whole lot of posting and typing.

Bud .....I am telling you ....you are makeing a mistake. finish what you started. I got the whole mom, apple pie ,and my country is calling bullshit. You will do better to finish what you started then serve.

Dont get me wrong. I am by no means telling you not to sign up. Finish what you started then go. there is plenty to go around. and you will be better for it in the long run.

Some of us didnt have the oppurtunity or squandered the chance to go to college......dont throw away what you have. If you stop now ....when will you finish?

My sentiments exactly 1SG, hey BuggerLugs...you seem to have your head on right and you can obviously take a kick in the nuts without snivelling.
It's not unheard of for a DEP to wait a year before ship out anyway.
Get the contract you want while you're finishing school and let us work with your silly ass in the meantime.
Good luck.

like the 1SG said. my postponement has lasted 15 years. get the picture? life will end up getting in the way. Rangering doesn't leave much time, energy, or desire to do night/online classes. get a girl, some kids, and it is exponetially harder to finish. there are plenty of us here that can attest to it. two of us already have. listen up. get a delayed entry if you're hell bent on joining, but get your shit first.

good luck, and welcome.

BloodGutsTears,
You might want to consider joining up in the college first program. I enlisted in this and it has been great so far. I was given 30 months to complete my college, but you may ship out if you finish early. the Army will pay for all you college loans(if they are a certain type) and they will also have DEP classes each moths to square you away. you can enter as an E-4 too. This is a great way to secure a position, and allows you to finish out your year. It has worked great for me.

Five posts and you're giving advice.
Glad you dropped in to keep us all straight.
Any idea how you shake and bake E-4s are looked upon by the rest of your peers?
If you're going to finish college come in as Officer.
Save your advice for pms UM.

Blood and guts,

Once again finish college. I went in after college, did all the good shit that Rangers do and then was able to get a good job later.

The chances of going back is not good. It is far harder when you get older as responsibilities tend to creep up. Finish and then join.

Don't make us say we told you so or you have a bunch of regrets.

I know how stupid most college kids are and how fucked up their priorities are but don't make a mistake yourself.

Finish and then join.

Finish what you started, complete your schooling, then serve in the Armed Forces.

Yeah! Get a commision and come back and fuck with Ranger Kilted Heathen after Ranger school.

Just kidding.

But they are all absolutely right. You won't have the time or the energy for school once you get to a real unit, if you do, it isn't a real unit.
