In June 2004, I shipped out to Marine Corps Recruit Training at Parris Island, SC. This was short-lived, however, as I was medically discharged three months later.

Since then, I've taken an interest in the Army. Since this site seems like a pretty informative military forum, I thought I'd snoop around for a while.

Welcome Justin,

Do you think that Marcus Vick will return to the Hokie lineup this year? What career field will you be in when you graduate with a degree in 'Consumer Studies'?

Someone is going to have to take the keys away from Ranger Silverback when he's working all night. He's scarring away all the fish!

Oh, and welcome.

Yes. Vick recently returned to practice, so I think he'll make it this year. I hope to enlist again in the military after I get my degree. This time, however, I'm more open to other branches than the Marines.

I can't believe I'm wasting my 100th post on this.

You need to get to an allergist and determine if the problem is taken care of. You may be eligible for allergy-cessation therapy.

Knew a lieutenant in training who had a reaction to ant bites like the one you describe, plus anaphylactic shock. Went to Martin Army Hospital, got the treatment. He was supposedly "cured" of this allergy.

A few weeks later, he gets stung by a wasp or something. Here we go again. Anaphylaxis, hospital. This time they treat him--and the treatment is an injection of the venom so that your body fights it oncce and for all--and he goes into worse shock.

Got a permanent "no outside duty" profile. That's when they separated him. Except--and this is the weird part--allergies to venomous insects were a special little paragraph in the MED reg that said he wouldn't be medically boarded, but rather "administratively separated under some other provision." So we put him out EPTS (condition Existed Prior To Service).

So, if you can get yourself cured, then maybe you could come in, but if not, you'll have the same problem in the Army as you did in the Marines.

Oh yeah, welcome.
Sir,

The doctor told me immunotherapy would take a few years, but it would most likely be successful.

Your doctor knows what he is talking about. I used to be extremely allergic to dogs and cats. I had to run wash my hands right after petting them to avoid allergic reactions. Then I went for allergy testing in 84. Scored positive to over 50 items out of 87. And the items you breathe in I had 7 out of 9. 2 were control #'s. So that meant I was highly allergic. For 3 1/2 years (I was supposed to go for 5 years) of getting the items I was allergic to injected in me first in very miniscule doses twice weekly. By the time I noticed in the early 90's, I was able to pet dogs and even hug them without getting reactions. The shit works. But there is no real overnight cure.

.Welcome
